Vehicle Detail

1979 Model A Shay Vehicle ID Number MOM1EX2039 Here is a rare 1979 1st edition Model A Shay with the extremely rare windshield lowering option. My best research has shown that only six Shays had this rare feature. Regardless if you drive with the windshield lowered or not, this feature is truly rare making this a very collectible American classic. The dual spare tires, the stainless rock guard. Please visit www.shayhistory.com for your own research of these limited edition cars sold by the Ford dealerships. The overall condition of this car is very good. It has only 9772 miles on it at the time of these photos. It also comes with two trophy's it has won by the previous owner. I have always kept this car in original condition. Always covered in the garage, and detailed. It is not a show car now but it is the nicest original one I have ever seen in person. And with the rare windshield post, this is a rare opportunity to own it. It has the original paint with very few cosmetic flaws. This vehicle comes with a 3 ring binder that has all the vehicles receipts that I was able to get when I first purchased the car. The oldest receipt was dated 1985 by what I believe to be the second owner purchasing it from the first owner. I have always kept all vehicle receipts during my time owning the car in order. No one knows what the first owner did with his receipts so my historical receipt tracking only goes back to 1985. The vehicle has 6 new Lester white wall tires on it with only about 3 miles on them. The tires cost $1,055.00, receipt included. The tires still have the little whiskers on them from the manufacturer. The wheels have the polished stainless steel spokes and Ford script chrome hubcaps, and painted hubs. The spare tires have matching chrome decorative fenders that add style to this classic. The original tires had plenty of tread but the white walls had lost their glow so we put Lester wide white wall tires on her and fully intended to keep the car. It came to me with the original (outdated) cassette player in the dash. I had the unit replaced with a new CD am/fm stereo in the same location and it uses the original antenna and speakers mounted neatly under the seat at the factory. It sounds great and a three CD collection from Scott Joplin is being packed in the trunk so the new owner can have classic ragtime music to enjoy. The upholstery is in near perfect condition. The front carpet is free of stains and damage. Floor mats included. It looks perfect. The rear carpet is low quality standard carpet and shows some deterioration from age alone. A new rear (rumble seat area) floor carpet kit would do this car some good. They are listed in the catalog I am sending along with the car. The car has etched wind wings, new polished windshield wiper motors, and new wiper blades. The step plates on each running board is the classic Ford script style. The rear lights are the vintage Duolamp real glass lense with stainless steel housing that is highly polished. The front two Ahooga horns are both chrome. The car came to me with a coat of clear lacquor sprayed on the horn housing that shows wear. They need polishing or re-chroming to be perfect, but they have no damage and both work very good and loud. The top is original with a couple of small holes in it. It fits snug with original frame and canvas in place. There is one snap directly behind the drivers seat that was never installed at the factory. There are some minor paint chips, but hardly worth repainting. Sadly e-bay will only allow 24 pictures and documenting every little detail is not possible. The minor flaws mentioned have never been a big enough issue to pursue. The original side curtains look to have never been put on the car. They are in new condition. The side curtains come in a heavy plastic case for storage and protection. The vehicle only is driven in nice weather here in San Diego. I personally remove the wiper arms because they are not needed on sunny days. They are in place now for the sale of the vehicle. The paint is Dove Grey with Black fenders, original paint in polished condition. There is a small bottle of Dove Grey touch up that is included in the trunk. The paint does have some chips but overall very nicely detailed condition. This car shows nicely. It is hard to go anywhere with out people honking or waving. Truly the most fun I have ever had with a car. The rear trunk is covered with the same matching black canvas material the top is. It has decorative Ford script metal badges on three sides along with nice metal handles. The locks on the trunk are antique Excelsior steamer trunk locks with the old hand cuff style barrel key's. I know this because when I bought the car the owner had lost the trunk keys and I had these key's made. I was told they look to be about 100 years old by the locksmith and that they were commonly used on these old car trunks. It is almost a shame to keep the trunk in place on the car because the wood trim and chrome base for the trunk is not shown while the trunk is on the car. The thick, 2" wide heavy leather straps that secure the trunk down have copper rivet hardware and heavy belt style stainless steel hardware, excellent quality material was used here as well. It matches the car perfectly. Mechanically it is perfect. The 4 cylinder Pinto motor runs perfect and the oil has been changed every 3000 miles. It starts up easily and has always been properly warmed up prior to driving. No leaks or issues. Always passes California smog when required by our strict California DMV. All the DMV proof from previous smog inspections is included in the receipt history log. The vehicle has a standard 4 speed transmission. Shifts and runs perfect. The gas gauge will only show 1/2 tank when filled all the way. It will show empty when empty so it worked fine for my needs. The front decorative chrome radiator shroud has the period correct Ford script name plate, the lower hand crank hole has a decorative matching metal Ford script piece matching the three on the trunk. It has the polished stainless steel front rock guard grill that is in perfect condition. The radiator cap is a quail in flight. The front chrome bumper brackets have Ford script writing along with very old Ford blue paint making me think they are real Ford Model A parts. This is a real auction with a low starting price and no hidden reserves. I will not be ending this auction early because someone has made a cash offer here in town. All my local advertising will direct interested parties to this site. I live in San Diego, California and any buyers that would like to see the car up close are welcome to contact me through this site for a scheduled appointment. The reason I am selling this classic is because of health issues. I hate to see her go. I do not have time to re-list this vehicle because my reserve was not met so this is a real auction. I would put the reserve unrealistically high because of my love for this car. I have the pink in hand and intend to sell this to the highest bidder. The highest bidder will be resposible for all shipping cost. Payment details: 1. The local people can pay face to face. 2. I will accept a cashiers check. 3. I will accept a money order. Shipping: I have included shipping quotes for all perspective bidders to review. Simply go to shipping and review your personal shipping quotes. This car is listed for worldwide shipping. Extras: I am sending along the following items to the buyer. This car is a previous two time car show winner, the two trophies are included. This car comes with the two original black wiper motors. One motor requires a replaceable plastic drive gear. I put new matching polished motors on because it was easier to find new motors than look for the part. I am told speedometer shops have these replaceable nylon gears. The second motor works fine. The original motors have many parts that may benefit the new owner. They are both boxed and will be found in the trunk. This vehicle comes with a "North Coast Tarpaulin Works" custom fitted car cover. These car covers have a soft inside and a rubberized outer shell. These car covers sell new today for around $200.00. It has built in ringlets for a locking cable to connect the two sides under the car. Locking cable not included. This cover has a few holes in it but still is in good working condition. This car comes with a 12 volt Harley battery tender that is plumbed into the charging circuit. Simply plug it into any wall plug during storage. No need to remove the floor carpet and the battery cover, simply pull the connecting wire out from under the drivers seat and plug in the charger. These chargers are engineered to only charge what the battery requires and then fall into a neutral state. Perfect for storage. This will add years to any battery by maintaining its needs. This car comes with a new 3 disc CD collection from Scott Joplin's Rag Time favorites. This car has a dated receipt book that details any and all receipts and service records since 1985. Oil changes, regular maintenance, DMV smog checks, etc. The service history log is another example of the care this car has received. This car comes with a small bottle of Dove Grey touch up paint. This car comes with the Chilton's Manual for the 1979 Ford Pinto running gear specific to this cars complete drive train and running gear. A must for all Shay owners. Also, I have added a current catalog from MAC's antiqiue car parts. They offer a large collection of hard to find parts specific to the Ford Model "A". Carpet kits, handles, horns, etc. This car has a Ford jack and handle along with a couple of tire tools. No wheel wrench. A socket works best for wheel removal due to the spoke location. No socket or wratchet included with this auction. Good luck bidding. Goodbye fun car.
