This is an ultra rare 1 of 1 car complete with 4 speed and special order dealer installed options such as: Hurst shifter, Drag Pack external oil cooler, and dealer installed 8 track stereo replacing the original AM/FM factory radio (still comes with the factory AM/FM unit that came with the car). This car even has an extremely rare and fully functional smog system. Also equipped with the rarest of paint codes, Pastel Grey was only produced on 16 cars that year and only 54 cars TOTAL its entire production run with Pastel Grey with black hood stripes and rare blue reflective GT500 side stripes. The car also has the 1970 only options such as: lower chin spoiler, functional ram air hood, center exhaust with rear double square tube ports, and functional brake cooling side scoops. This car is equipped with a rare 4 speed transmission, 3.91 Trac Lock rear-end, 428 SCJ V8 engine, 10.6 to 1 compression. The engine was made to withstand the high RPM's of drag racing. The engine horsepower is rated at 335 (advertised) which was done for insurance purposes, but in reality it made more than 400 (actual) and 440 pounds-feet of torque from a 428 cubic inch block. See below: About this car's restoration process: The restoration on this car was a NO EXPENSE SPARED restoration performed by well-known industry experts every step of the way with an extremely knowledgeable and accomplished Chief Restoration Expert, Dick Knight, who has been published in many top magazines such as Mustangs Monthly and Fast Fords as well as many others with his highly regarded Concourse Restorations of many vehicles. All paperwork for the restoration work to show that every aspect of the vehicle was restored with great attention to detail is available. Before the car even underwent restoration it was a top level Trophy winner for many years at in the un-restored and Daily Drivers classes starting in 1991 with a number of 1st and 2nd place trophies for the year and another series of 1st and 2nd place trophies again in 1993 and so on ending with 2nd place in National in 2001 as well as 1st place at the largest Mustang Show in America, Roundup, that same year. The vehicle was Concourse restored meaning that there are such things as the visible undercoating overlap areas underneath will show the red oxide and overspray which is how the factory performed these tasks as well as the sealant overlap in the fender mount areas under the hood and the stapled on trim pieces - all of this is 100% factory correct Concourse style restoration. Most notable is the actual visible Orange Peel in the paint as Ford used Red Oxide at the factory as an undercoating on all light colored paints had visible orange peel in the paint which is factory correct. When researching the vehicle to ensure proper Concourse level restoration it was discovered that the original buyer who was in Canada purchased the car and then had the vehicle immediately painted to the Factory Shelby Dark Acapulco Color since he did not like the Pastel Grey it came in but was not able to get his hands on another car with the Engine/Trans options he wanted. The car remained this color its entire life until it went through the Frame up, every nut and bolt, every detail Concourse Level Restoration and now sits as it came off the factory floor, with every inspection sticker, paint job, stripe marker, inspection tag, and so on. All other paperwork was tracked down and included with a full Marti Report Authenticity and more. The actual original Owner's Manual is still in the glove box! The mileage is true, authentic, documented throughout the history of the owners, of which there have only been 3. Paperwork including entries into the Shelby Registry will attest to the ownership history of this vehicle. The original purchaser sold the vehicle at Auction by John Hart with 51,202 miles on it - who purchased it from the original owner who lived in Canada - where the second owner, Richard Fowler purchased it for his collection and put only 231 miles on it before the vehicle was again purchased with only 51,433 miles on it. This car was purchased in the USA and delivered to Canada, Metro Motors Ltd of Calgary, Alberta. Research indicates that this is the only known 1970 Shelby GT500 428 SCJ to be shipped to Canada. The original bias ply "Canadian O" Tires are still in great shape with only 27k miles on them. They were removed from the car and stored and instead put on were a set of factory correct reproduction correct Bias Ply looking but actual Radial tires now making it much more drivable. Links to documentation paperwork: http://sdrv.ms/L3LnBo About the 1970 Shelby 428SCJ: As most Shelby enthusiasts know, the production actually ended in 1969 and there were a remaining 125 Shelby's of all makes and models left and these underwent an FBI supervised re-VIN process where an added 1970 VIN Tag was added on the Driver's side dash front windshield. This vehicle is date coded 06/05/1969 making is a late model 1969. The 1970 Models had no mechanical changes from the previous model. A total of 789 were produced of all models and only 125 of those were GT500 and an even smaller number were equipped with 428SCJ motors and only a portion of those equipped with 4 speeds. They actually equipped these cars with a roll cage from the factory as well as a 4 point harness system with seat belt configuration bolted to the roll cage and of course Lucas running lights mounted below the front grill. The 428 Cobra Jet would power the upscale GT500 through 1970. The GT500 carried the unique Shelby identification. For 1969, the exterior incorporated a longer fiberglass front end, a unique grill, updated taillights and revised exhaust outlets, as well as an aggressive hood with five functional NACA-style air scoops. The front and rear air scoops ducted cool air to the brakes. On the inside of the car was a roll bar, inertia-reel racing harness, plus luxury options and special trim.
