Vehicle Detail
I am the forth owner of this restored '66 Beetle. The car was purchased in North Carolina and kept until the mid 90's buy the original owner. The second owner performed the engine swap to the 1600 Dual Port Type 1 engine and converted to a 12 volt electrical system. The third owner had the restoration work completed. Please note the body was not removed from the pan as there was never any rust. The car is one of the few with the original floor pans intact. The interior, fenders, hood, running boards, rear deck, etc. were removed. Body was stripped to bare metal, primed and painted. The paint work is AWESOME ! (a professional body man told me VW's are hard to paint because the have very few flat surfaces). After paint work was completed, a new interior was installed, headliner, front and rear seats, carpets, matching door panels, etc. All paint and interior work was professionally done. Next, any mechanical issues were addressed ; brakes, brake lines, master cylinder were replaced. A 12 alternator was installed in place of the generator. Front suspension checked and any needed repairs made. The exhaust system including heater boxes were replaced . With the exception of the windshield, all glass is original, body panels are original as well as some of the chrome pieces. A "retro sound" radio with four speakers (there is a box behind the rear seat with two speakers) replaces the original am radio. It has provision for an mp3 player plug in. I've had the car for two years and have driven it about 2000 miles without having a problem. It's so much fun to drive. With the 1600 cc engine the car isn't slow (well..... for a VW !). I've done some minor things like replace the turn signal assembly and horn ring. New headlamp assemblies were purchased but not installed. I also have new shocks and a steering damper. The windshield washer bottle and lines need to be installed. This was never done. The emergency flasher knob is missing and the heater boxes need to be attached to the flex tubes that run into the body. The car looks as good in person as it does in the photos. It has been garage kept and pampered by everyone who has owned it. if there are any questions please drop me an email and i will answer as soon as I can. Thank you.
