Vehicle Detail

It is with great reluctance that I sell my 1988 BMW M6, I was a BMW mechanic in London during the mid 80's and when this car came out I swore I would one day own one. Last summer I was helping some friends out in their BMW shop in LA for a few weeks, a day or so after I had started this car arrived on the back of a truck and I fell in love. It had been sitting in a garage for four years and was in need of some TLC. After a few months the owner and I came to an agreement and I took possession in December. The motor was running good but the front brakes had seized on, I had the calibers rebuilt and rotors turned, now the brakes are spot on. I also performed a full service. This car was sold new from Santa Monica BMW California and cost $58,700, it is finished in Schwarz Black with a Lotus White leather interior. I acquired it from the 2nd owner who had bought it for himself as a 40th birthday present from Zipper BMW in 1990 with only 15,000 miles. He had enjoyed the car for 180,000 miles and said it had never let him down. He kept it well maintained and even had the top end done around 50k ago (although he said he couldn't find any records.) In general the car runs and drives great, I had intended to go through it and make a super tight car but unfortunately I started a job in January looking after a collection of 100 cars, that means I have zero time to spend on this car, and to be honest after working on a bunch of classic cars (14 pre-war!) all day the last thing I want to do right now is work on another car... The motor is strong and doesn't make any strange noises, the clutch feels good and the tranny shifts well, although it does sound like maybe the clutch release or input shaft bearing is a little noisy but not too bad. It does have a few typical oil leaks (those are the things I wanted to take care of as I can use my friends shop anytime) The suspension feels good and the rears are converted to regular shocks (replacing it all was also one on my intended jobs.) The original rims are not overly abused and the tyres which are TRX's are old but in pretty good shape, I was planning on 17" Alpina's down the road. The body is in decent shape with minimal of expected dings and scratches and the original paint still shines well. The interior looks great, the front seats were recovered and done to a good standard, the rears are all original, the headliner is good, the dash has a couple of small cracks just starting, the glass is all good, all windows and sunroof work, the original radio works but crackles when you turn the volume control and the electric seats work. It has most of its tools, books and window sticker. The things that are not working is the AC, the OBC and the airbag light came on when the detailer removed the seats to clean the carpet and then moved the car with the seats out, so I'm sure it just needs to be reset. This is a super fun car to drive, freeway driving is a true thrill, I had planned to enjoy this car for years but like I said I'm so busy with my job I will never have the time to do all the things I want to do. My loss is your gain! Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Tony (310)663-6494 See more photos below.
