THIS IS A STUNNING, COMPLETELY RUST FREE, FULLY LOADED, RESTORED TO ORIGINAL RAVEN BLACK MUSTANG FASTBACK. IT HAS BEAUTIFUL DARK RAVEN BLACK PAINT, FORD AIR CONDITIONING, POWER STEERING, PONY INTERIOR WITH CONSOLE, AM STEREO TAPE DECK AND ALL GT OPTIONS THAT INCLUDE DISC FRONT BRAKES, GT EXHAUST WITH TIPS, FOG LAMPS/GRILLE BAR, STEERING COLUMN CLOCK/TACK MOUNT AND THE QUICK RATIO STEERING GEAR. ALL OF THE COMPONENTS, EXCEPT THE EXHAUST, ARE ORIGINAL FORD PARTS. BELIEVE MOST ALL OF THESE ACCESSORIES COULD BE ORDERED INDIVIDUALLY. THE WAY THE FOG LAMPS WERE WIRED AND A COUPLE OTHER VERY SMALL ITEMS INDICATE EITHER THE DEALER OR THE ORIGINAL WEST COAST RESTORER ADDED THE STRIPES AND MAYBE SOME OF THE GT COMPONENTS. I'LL START WITH DECODING THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (VIN) AND DOOR TRIM TAG. THE VIN NUMBER IS STAMPED INTO THE UPPER INNER LEFT FENDER AND SHOWN IN ONE OF THE PICTURES. 6R09A178101: 6=1966, R=SAN JOSE CALIFORNIA BUILT, 09=2 DR FASTBACK, A= ENGINE CODE 289 4V AND THE 178101 IS THE PRODUCTION NUMBER. DOOR TRIM TAG - 63B FASTBACK BODY, A COLOR RAVEN BLACK, 66 DELUXE PONY TRIM, 18D PRODUCTION DATE OF 18TH OF APRIL 1966, 51 DISTRICT SERVICE OFFICE DENVER, 1 AXLE IS A 3:00 TO 1 AND 6 IS C4 DUAL RANGE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. UNDERHOOD STRUT TOWERS AND SUPPORTS HAVE DATE CODES AND LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN REPLACED OR REPAIRED, CAN'T FIND DATE CODES ON THE FRONT FENDERS SO THEY MAY HAVE BEEN CHANGED AT ONE TIME. THE ROCKER PANELS, INNER AND OUTER ARE ORIGINAL WITH FACTORY WELDS AND DATE CODES. THE CAR LOOKS LIKE IT NEVER HAD BODY RUST ANYWHERE. FLOOR PANS LOOK ORIGINAL WITH NO REPAIRS. I HAD THE STARTER MOTOR OFF AT ONE TIME AND CHECKED THE BLOCK CASTING NUMBERS THAT SHOW IT IS A MUSTANG 289 WITH A DATE CODE IN VERY EARLY APRIL, 1966 (I DIDN'T KEEP THE NUMBERS BUT KNOW THIS IS A CORRECT STATEMENT). TRANSMISSION AND EVERYTHING ELSE POWER TRAIN RELATED LOOKS LIKE IT WAS ALL PART OF THE ORIGINAL PACKAGE. HISTORY: THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED BY A FRIEND OF MINE AT THE SPRING, 1989, CARLISLE SWAP MEET. THE CAR WAS PREVIOUSLY RESTORED IN CALIFORNIA AND LOOKS AS IT DOES TODAY. THE ODOMETER SHOWED ONLY A FEW TEST MILES ON IT AT THAT TIME. IT NOW HAS 5900 AND THAT IS THE EXTENT OF DRIVING IN THE LAST 23 YEARS. IT WAS STORED IN A CLIMATE CONTROLLED BUILDING WITH OTHER CLASSICS AND HARDLY EVER SAW THE LIGHT OF DAY. HOWEVER, THE FLUIDS WERE CHANGED AND IT WAS MAINTAINED EVERY SUMMER WITH A FEW MILES PUT ON IT. I WOUND UP DOING YEARLY OIL CHANGES AFTER THIS INDIVIDUAL BECAME SICK AND LATER PASSED AWAY. I BOUGHT THE CAR AND WENT THROUGH IT FROM BUMPER TO BUMPER WITHIN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. FRONT GAS SHOCKS.TRANSMISSION COOLER LINES. FRONT END ALIGNMENT.THERE WAS NO EXPENSE SPARED IN BRINGING THIS CAR BACK TO A VERY HIGH LEVEL OF QUALITY. IT WAS A MATTER OF SPENDING MANY HOURS AND NEARLY $4,000 IN PARTS TO GET IT THERE.. THE CAR DRIVES AND HANDLES VERY NICE AND TURNS MANY HEADS. EVERYTHING WORKS INCLUDING THE CLOCK AND THE AIR CONDITIONING BLOWS COLD AIR. THE AM STEREO RADIO WORKS BUT I HAVE NOT TRIED TO PUT A TAPE IN IT. MY ORIGINAL INTENT WAS TO KEEP THIS CAR FOREVER BECAUSE OF THE SUPERB BODY AND ACCESSORY CONTENT. I DON'T THINK I COULD FIND ANOTHER LIKE IT WITHOUT SPENDING SOME REAL BIG DOLLARS. HOWEVER, I SIMPLY HAVE TOO MANY CARS AND PAYING LOTS OF MONEY FOR STORAGE, INSURANCE AND UPKEEP ALONG WITH HAVING TO WORK ON THEM ALL THE TIME INSTEAD OF HAVING A COUPLE FINISHED TO ENJOY. I HAVE A 90 CADILLAC ALLANTE MY WIFE AND I HAVE OWNED FOR 18 YEARS ON EBAY THAT THE AUCTION ENDS FRIDAY UNLESS SOMEONE USES A BUY IT NOW. I'LL BE SELLING A SO-SO 1966 GTO HARDTOP THAT IS MORE OF A PROJECT CAR NEXT. I'LL BE PUTTING MY 57 T-BIRD TOGETHER THIS WINTER AND THAT ONE WILL GO EVENTUALLY. WHEN I DETAILED THE ENGINE AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT, I PULLED THE VALVE COVERS AND GOT THE CYLINDER HEAD DATA. THE ROCKERS AND UPPER HEAD AREAS ARE EXTREMELY CLEAN AND LOOK AS NEW. LOOKS LIKE THIS ENGINE WAS REBUILT DURING THE WEST COAST RESTORATION. BLOCK CASTING AND DATE CODES LOCATED BEHIND STARTER MOTOR: C5AE-6015E= 66 289 BLOCK, 6D11 DATE CODE=APRIL 11, 1966. ALSO FOUND 6D12 STAMPED AT THE LEFT FRONT OF BLOCK, WHICH WAS THE ENGINE ASSEMBLY DATE OF APRIL 12, 1966. THE RIGHT CYLINDER HEAD IS CASTED WITH A DATE CODE OF 6B24=FEB 24, 1966 AND THE LEFT HEAD 6C1=MARCH 1, 1966. INTAKE MANIFOLD CASTING NUMBER IS C60E-9425-B AND MY NOTES STATE MARCH, 1966. NOTES ALSO STATE I COULD NOT LOCATE A TRANSMISSION DATE BUT IT SURE LOOKS LIKE IT IS PART OF THE ORIGINAL PACKAGE. ENGINE IS ALSO EQUIPPED WITH THE CORRECT AUTOLITE 4V CARB AND ALL ATTACHING PARTS.
