The Renault 4CV started development in secrecy during the German occupation of France in WWII although it didn't actually enter production until 1947. It was produced until 1961 and was the first French car to sell over 1 million units. This 1958 example is in superb condition and runs and drives fantastic. It is a French domestic market car known as a "modele D' affaires" (business model) and is not the more common US export model. This car is truly in unbelievably original condition. It comes with its original owners manual (in french)original tool kit with tools marked "Renault". The Body is in excellent condition with no major rust or any signs of prior rust or accident repair. The doors all open and close nicely and all the panel gaps are nice and even. The paint which I'm quite certain is original is a very nice olive green colour that compliments the car extremely well. The right rear fender was recently repainted due to a minor but very noticeable scrape. The paint is in overall very nice shiny condition with a few scratches and touch ups. There are some unexplained mild surface rust spots in the drivers door area (see picture). They don't show unless you are very close. I can only imagine something sprayed onto that area at some point long ago that caused them. In general the car looks fantastic with just enough age showing to give it some character. The Interior is also in very nice original condition. The seats may be original. If not they where re-done in a very period correct cloth material that is in generally very nice condition with a small repair on the drivers seat bottom. The dashboard looks fantastic. The headliner is excellent with just a little minor water staining around the rear window. The inside of the doors are nice. This is the businessman's model that did not come with door panels. Mechanically the car is excellent. The engine starts easy and runs nice and smooth with decent power for being only 750cc Its top speed is around 65mph. The clutch and brakes work great. The 3 speed floor shift gearbox works perfect (it is non-synchro first). The engines power range was known for it being able to drive from a dead stop all the way up to its top speed in 2nd or 3rd gear! It has a nice aftermarket header exhaust that gives it a sporty exhaust tone. The 6v electrics are in good order with everything working well (lights wipers horn etc.) The Instruments all work. It has an aftermarket aluminum valve cover but included is the original steel cover as well. It has a spare tyre and the tools needed to change it. The mileage shown 25542 is in kilometers and is believed to be original. The Glass is all in very good condition. The wheels and tyres are nice with plenty of tread left. The chrome and aluminum trim is all in good condition. Overall this is an excellent car that is ready for summer fun and due to its originality a good investment!
