Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1996 Passat TDI Wagon. It has low miles, is in great shape, and looks fantastic for a 1996. If you're looking at this you probably already know a lot about these cars so I won't go into all the perks. Here is the lowdown on this particular car: The good: power moon roof, manual transmission, clean car, tires are two years old, brakes are two years old (a little squeaky but strong), new timing belt at 96,000 miles, a couple of new door handles, new N75 valve, new wiper blades, JVC CD/MP3/USB/HD Radio stereo, cruise control works great, AC works great, rear struts are two years old, leather seats, new leather shift boot and break lever boot two years ago, truck bed liner coating on top of rear bumper, starts great and handles well, nice rubber floor mats, rubber mat in the back, original VW stereo comes with the car (I don't have the code but you can get that from a VW dealer), original VW hubcabs, roof rack, only 115K miles, paint and clearcoat are in tip-top shape, clutch works great, new Bosch oil filter (plus an extra one thrown in for good measure), original VW TDI engine cover (not attached but included--it needs a couple of bolts), starts up well and has excellent power for a wagon. The not-so-good: small air leak in vacuum line for power locks (which means the motor sometimes runs a little longer than it should sometimes), oil weeps from EGR vent (can be fixed by tapping the hole or by a new intake manifold), about a month ago I had 50% power on start up and then power came back on the drive home (due to a sticky anti-shudder valve; this happened two days later but has not happened again since; anti-shudder valve is tied to the intake manifold and replacing the manifold would solve this problem as it would solve the oil weeping from the EGR; manifolds for this car are 400-500 dollars and can be replaced DIY without much hassle), horn doesn't work, heating core is a little weak--it still puts out heat but on a really cold day you might want a little more; I installed a Power Hunt outlet to run a small 12V heater (horn stopped working after I did this so I might have jostled something); I will include this heater and outlet with the car and you can do with it what you see fit (you can remove it in a couple of minutes), cracked passenger side fog light, minor scratches from normal wear and tear in a couple of places on the side and top of car, one tiny rust spot (see picture), some scratches and a dented tweeter on the inside of the left passenger side door (see picture). The car runs great and is fun to drive. It's issues are minor and can be fixed pretty easily (accept for the heating core). It gets great gas mileage and can run on biodiesel, which we used 50% of the time. It's hard to find a good source of Biodiesel close to home, so we didn't use it as much as we hoped we would when we bought this car. Overall, this is a great, rare vehicle that looks fantastic, with low mileage and with a little DIY on the intake manifold will be almost as good as new. I am selling the car because I need a car with three shoulder straps in the back (there are only two in this car), I'd like a AWD vehicle, and I just don't fill this thing up with biodiesel as much I want to--it's a hassle, to be honest, and I don't like driving it as a straight diesel. Feel free to send any questions my way. I've had some maintenance done on it over the last two years and I can get that information to you if you are interested.
