Vehicle Detail
For sale is my 1971 Alfa Romeo GTV. Serial number AR 1532763. The car is very original with 73,259 miles. It has never been modified or restored. In dry storage sitting for over 10 years. Original color (Rosso Amaranto) with signs of a respray probably in the 1980s. Some signs of rust around the floor pedal area and passenger foot well. This will need to be repaired. The wheel wells are in good shape. I have photos of all four wheel areas. The rockers are solid. Jack points appear fragile. Trunk area is in good shape. Front pan area below radiator may have had some old repair, as my mechanic had to drill a drain hole for the radiator drain feature. Original interior including original 1971 door panels. The car needs restoration. The stainless steel brightwork is in great condition. I have the original hub caps. The car is complete. Original plaque of type in engine bay and stickers on inside of hood and color decal on inside of rear trunk. I had it worked on last Summer and lost my motivation to restore the car. My mechanic got it running installing standard new ignition parts, filters, some hoses and a new water pump. During that time of test driving, the we lost first and second gear. The mechanic suspects a slipped shift fork. The mechanical injection was functioning well with the engine running well. However, when the engine warms up it smokes out of the manifold pipe, not the exhaust pipe. When hot, it smokes quite a bit out the manifold hose. He suggested a engine top end and gearbox re-build. We considered dropping another set of running gear into it but I hate to change the originality. I drove it home, mostly in third! and put it back in the barn. It spits now but I can't seem to start it and I have lost interest in the project to restore this beautiful Italian classic. I am happy to answer any questions. I have more photos and I can email you a link. Thanks for looking and happy Independence day!
