Vehicle Detail

DON'T LET THE DAINTY APPEARANCE OF THIS 1910 BRUSH FOOL YOU, THESE ARE TOUGH LITTLE CARS. THE SAME MODEL AS THIS ONE WAS THE FIRST CAR TO CROSS THE AUSTRALIAN CONTINENT, THROUGH THE BUSH, IN 1912. This was recently re-enacted with a similar car. A 1908 model crossed the United States, and was the first car to climb Pike's Peak, which they did enroute as a lark. I bought this one when I was 19 in 1968, and restored it then. Since, we have been on many tours, and it has never failed to complete one. The car got another complete ground-up restoration in 1977, (to better much of my teenage work) except for the upholstery and top, and it got a new top about 15 years ago. The 1977 paint has aged some, but is still very presentable. We JUST finished a complete mechanical restoration, LESS THAN 50 MILES AGO. New babbitt in the engine, new cam, new bronze counterweights on the crank, new aluminum piston, new stainless valves, and its fully balanced. Modern seals were installed to prevent the typical oil puking that these early cars love to do,and it now leaks less than our Model T. The transmission got all new shafts, bearings and bushings, new automatic transmission discs in the clutches, and modern seals installed. It takes ATF in the transmission and gear oil in the adjoining jack shaft. Previously, there was no seal between them, so you can imagine how well that worked out. The wheel hubs got all new TIMKEN style bearings front and rear, to replace the old loose ball type. It is very authentic, right down to the Kingston 5 ball carburetor and JB coilbox with BRUSH script switch. It has its original gas and oil tanks, even the spark plug wire is original. The sidelamps pictured are repos off another car, BUT I have the correct original Corcorans that match the taillight, they are straight, and only need polishing. All the sheet metal on the car except the hood is original. (The hood was missing when I got it) The 102 year old radiator still cools great, and doesn't leak. (Lets see your Hyundai do that!) It even has its original number stamped Selden patent plate. (That's a whole 'nother story in itself) The wheels are original, tires are a more recent addition, with larger metric ones on the rear for better surface area while braking. It starts, shifts, steers, brakes and drives very easily, and is quite comfortable, as it is the first car to ever use coil springs. It cruises along easily at 25-30 MPH. The "Abernathy Boys", 6 and 9 year old brothers, drove a BRUSH from NYC to Oklahoma Territory in 1910. The designer, Alanson Partridge Brush was no stranger to the auto world, he designed the engine in the first Cadillac, as well as subsequent ones before designing and building the BRUSH car. After the BRUSH company was sold to Maxwell, he went on to design the first Oakland engine. He then worked for other auto companies you probably never heard of either, throughout his long career. The Maxwell Co was sold to Chrysler in 1925, so this car is officially the grandfather of the Chrysler. I am only selling this because we need to cover college tuition costs for our son, and have a reasonable reserve on it, so bid to own. $500 non-refundable deposit on Paypal at close of auction, balance on pickup.QUESTIONS?? CALL MY CELL (805) 674-9225 DAYS.Always leave a message if you miss me. As always, I reserve the right to sell the car locally before the end of the auction. Thanx for looking and happy bidding.
