Vehicle Detail
I just finished this 914/916 look Porsche project. I have too many toys so I am offering it up to the high bidder so someone can enjoy this awesome 71 914 this Summer. This vehicle was imported from California in 2009, and I bought it in 2011 from the previous owner who had intentions of restoring this solid car, but decided to sell due to health reasons. I removed all the paint down to bare metal, repaired all the dents and imperfections ( pretty much rust free from California ). The car was then given a direct to metal primer. I proceeded to remove the solid fender lips and graft on the fibreglass flares. Once the bodywork was complete it was primed again, then given the blue and orange basecoat/clearcoat paint you now see. I themed this car after the famous Gulf oil race car, and I am very happy with the overall appearance. The paint does have some minor imperfections, but is great driver quality. The engine was a 1.7 litre unit, which was updated with 94 mm pistons and cylinders bringing the displacement to around 1835 CC. It has a Compufire distributorless ignition system, and dual Weber carbs replace the troublesome fuel injection, a header feeds into a single baffled pipe for that race sound. I installed a brand new electric fuel pump, as well as a new windshield, wipers,4 tires, new carpet kit and several rubber seals. The removable targa top fits tightly, and stores easily in the trunk. The lights go up and down as they should, and all lights and signals horn etc.. were functioning at last inspection ( I had a local mechanic perform a pre-safety check ). I did have to patch 1 section of floor ( behind pass seat ) I think from water sitting on floorpan ( California owner never had top on ! ). The rest of the body and main structure was super solid with no rot. I have ordered trailing arm bushings and 1 ball joint, as they were found worn at inspection. This car runs great and drives as it should, I still retain the signed California Title so sending it back to the USA ( responsibility of buyer ) would be a breeze. Canadian buyers, it is already legally imported into Ontario, Canada with proper Canadian Customs paperwork. Wherever this great little car ends up I am sure the new owner will agree it was " well bought". Ask questions, schedule an appointment to come see the car if you can, keep bidding because someone is going to get a great deal. These cars are really going up in value, and solid examples like this one are hard to find especially if you are from the North East ! The reserve is at about parts cost ( for me this is a hobby ) so don't think you can buy a $2000.00 car and turn it into. one like this for less money ! Porsche parts are expensive, The stainless steel mirrors on this car are selling for hundreds of dollars as used parts. Good luck bidding . On Jun-12-12 at 10:57:36 PDT, seller added the following information: Hello all watchers. Just a few additions and notes on this listing. I had someone come and look at and try the car Today. He pointed out ( or asked on a few items which I did not list ) The tachometer is not functioning. I am sure it works, but having replaced the standard distributor with a distributorless ignition system the signal is not being sent to the tach from the engine. I also neglected to mention that this car is equipped with an electric trunk release which is pushbutton actuated from the dash. A push button starter switch has been installed for starting, but keys are present and required for the ignition. Like any 41 plus Year old car I am sure there are some imperfect systems or possible details I have overlooked; However, as stated you could not build this for less $$ ,it is well priced. I just wanted to be as honest and clear as to what I am selling. It also has a brand new battery, which was not stated in the ad. With so many watchers I expect it to sell, avoid the bidding frenzy and bid early. If it doesn't sell I may insure it and drive it for the Summer cheap fun ! Good luck !On Jun-14-12 at 13:21:06 PDT, seller added the following information: Be the lucky last bidder. Somebody will take home a real deal ! Don't miss out for the sake of a couple hundred bucks, especially Canadian bidders, since it is already here no traveling or importing to do ! Good luck all !
