Vehicle Detail

This highly collectible classic European roadster has been my baby for past the eight years. The car spent most of its time in Florida before I purchased it in 2004. The original paint was beginning to fade so I had it professionally repainted in 2005 and it is still as smooth as glass and still shines like new. This car has always been garage kept, only driven on pretty sunny days; it has never seen the rain and it shows. I’ve averaged putting about 1,500 miles per year on it since I’ve owned it. This is an amazing car to drive. The ride is incredibly smooth and it handles very well. I’ve entered it in several local car shows, fun rides, and it’s carried several beauty pageant winners in local parades. There are no rips or tears in the upholstery. The original spare tire is still in the trunk and has never been removed. The original Mercedes tool kit is still intact and complete. Mechanically this car is extremely sound. Anything that has ever needed attention on the car has gotten it. The original 3.8 fuel injected motor is strong. I’ve kept all paperwork for anything I’ve done to the car. I would not hesitate to take off and drive this car anywhere. The tires have only about 15,000 miles on them. The brakes were replaced about 2,000 miles ago. New sway bars, etc. Car has the double row timing chain (documented by a mechanic). For those of you who know your early SL’s know how important that is. I’ve been told this car would rate as a very good three to mid two……it is a VERY nice driver and local show car. I have all the original owners’ manuals. I have the original dealer’s brochure for this car. I even have a 1982 Road and Track magazine that features the 380SL and a scaled toy model of the car that was used as a promo item. The car is not perfect; if I’m being picky there are a few items that you might fault the car for. The original carpet is a little worn. The wood grain on the console is beginning to crack. The odometer broke last summer. It reads 88k miles, but actual is closer to about 90k. The plastic glass on the soft top is a little cloudy. There are just a couple of pen head size chips in the paint, probably no more that 3-4 on the whole car. Overall this is one of the nicest examples of a ’81 380SL that you’ll ever see. If you have any questions just let me know. Happy bidding!
