1982 Mercedes Benz 240D Sadly it’s time to part with my Benz. I have tried to show and describe an accurate representation of the car. It is a very nice looking Benz, it shows that it was well taken care of it’s entire life. Good running condition until fan belt broke in Turnpike, car was driven short period overheated, causing head gasket to blow. Vehicle runs and steams out of radiator. Battery will need to be charged or jumped to start. New battery as of fall 2011. This vehicle has been in my family since new. Purchased at Wright Motors Syracuse NY in 1982 by my parents. Never driven in winter and always garaged, the condition of the car shows, it is a head turner. When purchased the only 2 options with the car were the Silver Paint and the Sunroof. No modifications to the car have been made with the exception of a stainless steel exhaust system about 2005, and Becker radio replaced. Engine has never been worked over other than valve adjustments, transmission, drive train, brakes, all in working original condition, this has been a very low maintenance car. The paint is en excellent condition considering it’s age, there are no bubbles or thin spots, no sun damage. Very few dings or marks to body. Trim is complete and very nice, chrome sparkels. Interior of car also excellent, carpets, seats, headliner, all original manuals, hubcaps, first aid kit, full size spare tire. Sunroof is manual as are window cranks. Dash board shows signs of age and has cracking. Cruise Control needs servo replacement, it operates for 5 or 10 minutes and kicks out , will reset and operate for shorter durations. A/C needs replacement compressor (Delco) will hold a charge for the Summer but does eventually leak out. Steering box is a little loose but not bad just a little slack, never bad enough to replace. Vacuum door locks have been disabled and operate manually. Power antenna not working needs mast motor. Car is very solid and tight I expect the head gasket should not be a major job on an open 4 cylinder engine. There are few 240D’s around that compare to this one and with a little work you will have a vehicle that will turn heads. Always got 30 MPG with this diesel car.
