Vehicle Detail

Thank you for looking. First, please check my feedback. I have been an EBAY member for over 12 years, and I am honest, period. Second, do not hesitate to ask questions or to request supplemental photos. Third, I reserve the right to cancel this auction early. Fourth, my reserve is modest. Fifth, there are two issues that are important to emphasize (I've done this in BOLD below). Sixth: Note that included is a custom tow bar! Lastly, I've stored this car in its own dedicated garage, never driving it in the rain or snow. This is a 1962 beetle. I've owned it for one year. I purchased it for my own enjoyment, fully intending to keep it indefinitely, but at this stage it is simply silly for me to keep several cars (I have a 1962 Fiat 500), and as much as I have enjoyed driving this beetle to work (I teach at a local college and put 600 miles on her in the fall and early spring), I want to pare down. I will try to describe this car as best as possible. Please note - I have owned and restored (including several frame-off restorations) over 18 cars (mostly british roadsters) in the past 20 years, and I am fairly confident in my description. History: The car was originally owned by a T. Rider of California (please see the photo with the original documentation). She owned the car through the 1980s. The owner that I purchased the car from lived between Mass and Florida. He had extensive knowledge of beetle maintenance, tuning, etc., having kept the car for several years, going so far as to tow it once back/forth from MA to Florida. He stored it in a dedicated, heated garage in the winter. BODY: It is beautiful, period. There is no evidence of any structural damage from an accident or otherwise. Bring a magnet if you like. I believe the car has the original panels, pans, etc. In one photo, you will see an undercoat that was applied to the bottom many, many years ago. It has been flaking off for years, and underneath the old undercoat is the original paint in very good condition. (I do not care for undercoating, so I was hesitant about this when I originally investigated the car. But, it is remarkably clean underneath, with no evidence of deterioration. Still, I would recommend removing all of it with a powerwasher). Even the Spare Well in the bonnet area is without a wrinkle. The underneath is sound, with the pans, etc. There is virtually little surface rust on the body anywhere. I am happy to take a photo of anyplace. There is an area of deterioration in the front part of the driver's sill, forward of the heater channel, where road moisture from the driver's side wheel has deposited. I ground this down and used POR15. (Truly, it is a small area, and I am confident that it did not at all affect structural issues with the heater channel). Engine: It sounds terrific, little smoke at all. THE ENGINE DOES HAVE A REAR SEAL LEAK, and while it holds oil at the low end of the dip stick, anything more will drip out of the rear seal. This should be changed. I drove the car 600 miles last year and put quite a bit of oil in her for safety. ALSO: There is an accessory "piggyback" oil cooler, located underneath the original oil sump. This is a terrific feature for hot weather driving. The past owner had this installed for his Florida driving. Transmission is sound, with the gears engaging well, no kick out, etc. Clutch: There is a slight judder that comes and goes - it may be related to the Rear seal. Interior is beautiful, with a new headliner. Original radio. Seats beautifully redone several years ago. Carpet, windows, etc. are beautiful. Overall Paint: It was resprayed years ago in the original pearl white, with the match being done very nicely. It is a very good paint job. The rack is an aftermarket, but it is very attractive. Chrome is simply beautiful, period. Electrical - the car has the original 6v system, and the battery is a bit weak (as it is a hard start in cold weather). There is the original (optional) back up light, which operates off of the speedo. The ignition is good. Fuel system is good. The car tracks well and drives well. I also have a full set of engine gaskets. There is a custom tow bar for this beetle. When I purchased the car, I didn't have the registration/plates in my name, so I simply towed it home behind my Ford Escape down the Mass Pike at 70 miles an hour. The car just tracked right behind me. Really, it was that easy. I am sure that there will be questions. Please - only serious inquiries. I will post the inquiries and my responses that are relevant to the car on the listing, unless the inquirer would rather I didn't. Local pickup. Come take a look, if you like. It is as beautiful as the pictures depict.
