Vehicle Detail
1978 Dodge Diplomat Medallion2-Door 318 engineAutomatic Transmission96,022 milesNot Currently InspectedSable Tan (Brown with metallic fleck) paint with tan landau vinyl top and interior Currently what does it need? Well just got it back from inspection station, they say it needs some basic work done in order to be acceptable. Steering gear adjustment, front brake hoses, lower ball joints, and a new y-pipe because there is a exhaust leak. The front passenger tire only has about 1000 miles on it, but has some spider cracking going on there, so it will need to be replaced. Then the rear driver side tire is has little tread left. So basically it will need 4 new tires. With all that, this car is still very drivable, actually it still rides pretty smooth. Really nice ride! Purchase it 05' with only 62,000 miles which was great. The motor runs excellent and gets good mileage for a 318, typically around 17-20 mpg with mixed driving. Since then several items have been replaced and are still nearly new... Rear leaf springs, rear shocks (overload coil shocks), rear leaf spring shackles and bushings, typical brake pad & adjusters replacement, rear drums, park brake cables, muffler & tailpipe, front disk pads, valve cover gaskets, carb gasket, voltage regulator, alternator, ballast resistor, ignition coil, brake booster. Oil change & filter and a full ignition tune up, ignition timing check were recently done. Emissions system was also checked OK while performing a Throttle Position Switch adjustment. Body and trim has some typical scratches, nicks and dings. Nothing terribly horrible. When polished the finish looks good. The vinyl top is good shape. The interior front seats have the typical splits in the vinyl with the worst being the drivers side front seat. Currently there are seat covers on the front. Back seats are near perfect. Dash "top pad" has lost its color due to 35 years of sunlight. It is now a faded black color. Headliner has been needing attention ever since I bought it, I just was never was able to get around to repairing it. Sun visors are also in need of a redo. Steering wheel has some splits in the grip, it is the deluxe style bakelite wheel. Steering wheel horn pads stopped working 2 years ago, so I hooked up a auxiliary horn button (I was able to find a tan colored one) mounting it to the dash. The rear window is equipped with a defroster but it doesn't work because the wiring tab has lost it's connection. I know that there are kits for repairing the connection to the window. Radio currently is a aftermarket cassette AM FM with two aftermarket rear speakers. I have the original radio, which was a mono AM FM with push button tuning. Also have original rear speaker. Auto antenna is wired to a switch for the newer radio. Carpet has held its color and there are no issues. Digital dash clock still works. Cruise Control still works! Trunk is fine, new seal, equipped with the original spare donut tire and quick fill canister. The air conditioning still blows cool, but not cold like a few years ago, so it might need a refill. There is some minor surface rust underneath but no rotting. Actually the original undercoat has, up until recently, still held its own to the undercarriage. There are no typical corner panel rust on this vehicle. Two small repairs were made a few years ago for nickle sized holes right behind the rear mud guards. They are finished nicely are not noticable. Overall this vehicle has served me well with easy maintainence and excellent reliability. Engine operates smoothly and starts well. Original paper work comes with vehicle including a dealership warrenty, owners manual, road safety test results, sound system manual, dealership brochure, Sears Service repair logs with dates/mileage, Chiltons Auto Repair "Bible" that includes info for 1978 Mopars including this Diplomat, and a electrical systems repair manual that covers the Diplomat as well. I still have the missing brow trim for the rear pass. light lens, in pics you see it is missing. I also still have the missing driver sun visor that is missing in the pic of the headliner. I was working on a project of redoing them myself and so took it off for purpose of color matching. Winning bidder is responsible for pickup of vehicle. I expect followup emails and communication soon after auction ends. At that time an exchange of info will be given so seller and buyer have a chance to talk verbally over the phone. Vehicle is located in a pretty rural area, next trustworthy tag notary is 30 mins drive. On Apr-27-12 at 13:27:52 PDT, seller added the following information: **I just wanted to include some additional comments in response to all the questions that I have received for this auction $200 deposit down required at end of auction. Allowing up to 14 days for pick up and to finalize sale with remaining balance in cash, in person only. All buyers who pickup vehicle with less than the remaining sale balance in hand, will be turned away with no discussion. Buyer assumes responsibility for the remaining balance, period. Toleration of non-paying bidders is non existent. All sales final. No tire kickers please. There is no financing for this vehicle. If buyers wish to do so, then a creditor or financing agent should be chosen that can grant a loan to buyer. That loan should amount to the remaining balance that will be due upon pickup in person or before transport arrives for those wishing to flatbed vehicle. It all sums up to mean that this vehicle will not move, or be allowed to be picked up until this vehicle is paid in full ONLY. LET ME REPEAT NOT UNTIL IT IS PAID IN FULL WILL THIS VEHICLE BE ALLOWED TO BE TAKEN. Seems simple enough but that 1% of buyers (those tire kickers) that seem to show up everywhere need things spelled out in braille. Please feel free to pose any question that you may have about this item. I will try to respond in good order as soon as I can. Please do not load my message box with comments, suggestions or any other off subject, irrelevant, hum drum 2 cents. I am not interested in fellow ebay member's life story. I understand people wanting to share interests and I have myself commented on hobbies and shared stories with other ebay members, mostly just buyers though. Just like any sale, "tire kickers" are usually unwanted and undesirable. I always try to maintain a professional behavior whenever doing a sale or representation. My ebay feedback reflects this standard and I only request the same in return. 99% of the time, ebayers know what is expected of them and is a no-brainer. But that 1% ?.....are always in need of things being spelled out.Non-paying bidders get blocked forever! I only allow 4 days exactly for payment to be made, after that all Non-paying bidders loose their item. A Typical pattern for these non-payers is that their address information and such turn out to be bogus. They use false names and addresses of past companies that they worked at, etc. OWN THIS CLASSIC CAR TODAY. WITH JUST A LITTLE BIT OF BASIC MECHANICAL WORK & TIRES, YOU CAN BE DRIVING THIS ORIGINAL CLASSIC THIS SUMMER!!!
