Vehicle Detail
Up for Auction - Matching numbers,1950 Buick 2 door. Commonly referred to as a "Sedanette". Has the Dynaflow transmission. I bought this car to turn it into a street rod, but after getting it and digging into it, I realized it was too good of an original to do that to it. I stripped it down to bare metal, to find that it had virtually no rust or body work done to it. One example is in the photos, I do have many detailed high resolution photos of every square inch of the exterior of the car when stripped down, to show how clean it is. I will send on request. The only issue, was that the center of the floor pans were rotted out, common it the carpet got wet. New floor pans were welded in. Basically I repainted the car, cleaned up the under-carriage and engine compartment, and put it back together. Mechanically, it has a perfect running original straight 8 engine. I put an improved aftermarket "torque ball" seal in the transmission. The originals were known to leak quite bad, as this one did. The aftermarket solution solves this problem with a vulcanized rubber seal versus the steel on steel. So now, everything mechanically works great. The car drives down the freeway absolutely wonderful at 75 miles an hour. The uplostry in this car is original and excellent. The only thing is the carpet. I bought a replacement carpet set, and it does not fit perfect, it has some wrinkles. The seats and headliner are about as good as you could get for original. With the condition of the interior, and the body being so rust free, I firmly believe the 88,143 on the odometer is the original miles on this car. To make this car a full beutiful restoration, the following would need to be done: Chrome the front and rear bumpers (I painted them in a scheme I liked). Replace the carpet or have someone seam the wrinkles out. Steering wheel has some age cracks. Glass in great except for the passenger door window and the passenger vent window being cracked. The passenger side of the split winshield has windshied wiper scratches in it. Full glass kits are available for this car on the internet for around $300.
