Vehicle Detail
In this auction I am selling my 1978 FIAT 124 Sport Spider. Please see the large pictures below this text. Last year in January I came from Germany to Portland/Oregon as an Expatriate and in June I bought this great little Fiat convertible. I was supposed to stay here in Portland for three years, but after the project I was working on got cancelled my company decided to send me back to Germany in May. Unfortunately shipping a car from US to Germany is very expensive so I have to sell it. I would definitively keep this Fiat if my company would not have to go back to Germany. The car comes with a clean title, one key for the car, one key for the trunk, the original owner’s manual, a “Service Stations” book and the emission test report from the last emission test. The tags are good until 06/2012.I bought the car with 55,158 miles. When I took the pictures 10 days ago it had 58,515 miles. By the time the auction ends and the buyer receives the car it will have not more than 58,800 miles. After I bought the car I put in a new battery and I got the engine oil and oil filter changed at about 57,200 miles. The previous owner told me that he replaced the timing belt, the master brake cylinder and the front brakes in 2010.This Fiat was my daily driver for the last 11month. I drove it every day (except some Saturdays and Sundays) and I never had any issues which would stop the car from driving. The powertrain runs pretty strong. The car makes up to 90~100mph but I have to admit that it does not feel very safe at these speeds. The paint is pretty old and in bad condition. I think the original color of this Fiat was orange and it was painted red at some point. The car comes with an aftermarket radio which I disconnected because I had the feeling that the standby mode is eating the battery. The car will pull to the left side if you are driving and step on the brakes but this didn’t really bother me. If you don’t push the brakes it will drive straight so I think is has noting to do with the steering but with the right/left brake adjustment. Because the previous owner has lowered the car the left wheel will rub on the body at maximum steering angle to the left. The doors close and you can turn the key but the doors won’t look. The car will start every time, but sometimes you have to step a little bit on the throttle pedal. I think some carburetor adjustment will help. The horn does not work because the previous owner replaced the steering wheel. The parking brake works but needs adjustment. The chrome wheels have some rust. The driver seat has a tear. The windscreen washer and the air blower for the passenger compartment never worked but you also won’t need this for a convertible ;-)Last year in fall an other car hit me from behind. This was with very low speed at parking lot. At my Fiat the trunk got pushed inside a little bit but this does not affect driveability. At the pictures you can see that the tail light is cracked (but still working) and on the right side the trunk lid does not line up with the body anymore. The white/clear tail light cover fall of but is not cracked and will come with the car (please see picture below). The previous owner removed all the exterior trim parts and the rear bumper because he started to prepare the car for painting (but never finished). I didn’t put the parts back on because I liked the car more without the parts. The rear bumper and some other trim parts shown on picture 22 come with the car.As you can see this Fiat has some small issues but I drove it almost every day for more than 3000 miles and no of these issues stopped me from driving. All important things like head lights, indicator lights, rear lights, brake lights, wipers work fine.It is lot's of fun to drive this car especially with the top down in summer. I would not sell it if my company would not send me back to Germany. I am living in Portland, Oregon. If you are living close and if you want to see the car please send me an email to schedule an appointment. Please note that this car is more than 30years old and it is not new. If you are living far away from Portland, Oregon, I recommend not to drive this car all the way back to your home.Local pick up in Portland, Oregon ONLY.
