Vehicle Detail
This car was purchased by a friend of mine in 1975. He was the second owner. As his family grew, he parked his 914 in the garage in about 1991 and simply never started it again. It has 62,638 original miles. It was parked outside for about 2 years in the early 90s 'otherwise been garaged since. It has very slight damage near the rear passenger tail light, otherwise the car is in near perfect condition. I've been told that the car is in such good condition that someone with the right skills could make this car a "survivor" class car. I've had a very nice "orange" original 1974, 914 since 1984 and this green one has potential to be a much nicer car. I bought this car two years ago with the intention of getting it running and keeping it original. The interior is in near perfect condition, no door dings, never wrecked, no cancer except the battery box. (It has a new battery). I started the project by removing and cleaning the gas tank, replacing and cleaning fuel lines. I then rebuilt the brake system. I'm no mechanic and a friend of mine offered to help get it running. He was able to get the motor to turn over. (I put Marvel oil in the pistons when I first got it). Of course, the fuel pump did not work. After fixing the pump, for some reason, we could not get power to the starter again, and I threw my hands in the air and said "enough"! I had to get space back in the garage and the "green" one had to go. We put a heavy duty master cylinder in the green one and I removed it and put it in my orange '74. My "orange" seats were near perfect, but not completely perfect so I transferred the green to the orange. The accompanying pictures are not dolled up in any way. There is no Armoral or anything else that would present a false impression. This car featured the original unused factory spare which I transferred to my orange. I think the spare I put back in the the green '74 is also an original factory, but I can't confirm that. But it is still very nice. I have the bumpers. They are at my friends house. He is doing clean up work on them. They are in good shape. As with most 914's of this year, one of the rear deck hinges is broken. I used some very fine paper on a spot of the paint and the pigment seemed to be very strong. I think the original paint can be saved. The brown spots under the front hood are the varnish/gas stains left when I blew out the gas lines. I think they can be easily removed. When I had the battery hooked up, everything electrically seemed to work. The heater fan came on, the lights popped and all the dash components lit up. I did not try the original factory radio. As I mentioned, the interior is as good as can be found in an original car. This car is just a few hours away from being an extremely nice original car. It is certainly worth saving and putting back on the road. As far as I can determine, it just needs a master cylinder to be ready to run and drive. Of course, you have to find why turning the key does not turn the engine, but that's probably not a problem for a good mechanic. "Diamond in the rough" is a term used too often....not in this case. On Apr-05-12 at 14:10:56 PDT, seller added the following information: The engine is 1.8 liter. Also as a special note: It has the originals keys, including the valet key.
