Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE 1991 Saab 9000S 5-Speed for Sale Thanks for taking a look at my well worn but worn well baby. This car has a lot of miles but simply will not stop running. I have been ready to get a new car for the past several years expecting this one would do something to give me cause to retire it but it hasn’t. I found a very sweet 2004 Saab 9-3 Aero to compliment my ’87 900 turbo in the garage that I couldn’t pass up and as much as I hate to part with my 9000 I don’t have room for it. I’ve had to kick our teenager out of her spot in the driveway as it is J. This 9000 has spent most of its life in California and down south so it’s rust-free but also has some sun damage (rear parcel shelf faded, lower seat covers cracked, door panel fabric shrunk and falling off). The interior would look fine if the headliner and seat covers were replaced. No cracks in the dash, all the lights work, etc. The steering wheel (not the steering gear itself) has a lot of play in it since I bought it. I have new bearings for it but never installed them because it never bothered me. I have all original print materials, radio and owners manuals, warranty book and service records up to the time I bought it. I bought this car at 186,000 and the only things I have done to the car since then is to replace tires, brake pads, starter and DI cassette (it’s the ignition cassette that sits on top of the valve cover and houses the coil and other electronics responsible for spark and ignition timing). Engine is totally sound. I change the oil every 10,000 miles (Mobil 1 full synthetic) and don’t need to add any in the interim. Exhaust is quiet. Tranny and clutch work just as they should. Brakes work great, although ABS has been unhooked. All lights and lenses, alarm, power windows, sunroof and power locks and seats work exactly as they should. A bunch of work was done in 2005 including rear and front main oil seals, AC fan, rheostat, lines… The A/c has been converted to R134 and has a tiny leak. I add one can of refrigerant with oil every year at the beginning of the season. That’s it. One tire (front left) needs to be replaced but other 3 are good. SRS and ABS are inoperative and have been since I bought it. Windshield is cracked almost all the way across. Should be able to see it in pics CV boots have been torn for a year so they click when turning Speedo doesn’t work. It’s not the gear in the tranny but something wrong after that, perhaps the wires that plug into the back of the gauge cluster came loose: a common problem. But that also means that the computer doesn’t get speed info which means it will stall if you use engine compression to slow down. I simply push the clutch in or put it in neutral when slowing and it never stalls. The computer info. display also needs info from the speedo so the DTE and fuel economy info is inaccurate also but the other info like outside temp and voltage meter are accurate. Everything worked perfectly before the speedo went out at 246,XXX miles. Current mileage is estimated. Speedo went out in summer of 2010 Rear suspension works great. Front suspension: Needs upper strut bearings (they make a clicking noise when going over bumps and steering isn’t as tight as it used to be) but struts are fine. All other suspension and steering components are fine. The drivers side was hit in a parking lot, according to the previous owner. I did some shoddy body work that I never finished and still have the paint (base and clear) if the new owner wants to fix it. A new front door and paint would do the job quickly. I could donate it and get a tax right off for this car or whatever but I honestly don’t have the heart to see it go to a crusher when it seems to have plenty of life left. There are just too many things good about the car, even though it has a lot of miles and looks rough around the edges. It’s easy to say “I would get in this car and drive across country” but honestly, I would. I have driven this thing at 85 miles an hour down to Miami in the middle of summer in total comfort. It is incredibly smooth for a car of this age and mileage. It makes my 87 900 turbo feel like a buzzy, noisy go cart by comparison. Comes with the factory roof racks, factory tow hitch and rear spoiler Now that I look at the pics I must say that they make it look better than it does in person. I also just rinsed it off. The hood is NOT quite that shiny :) Ask any questions you might have. I’m happy to answer them. Title is clean. Expect for insurance and tags, it’s ready to be driven away and always starts up and runs smooth in any weather.
