Vehicle Detail

1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham Elegant California Car Now On the East Coast A stalled project that now needs a new home - thousands invested during 2011 Please wait for all pictures to load! Sold new in San Luis Obispo, CA and in the same family for 20+ years before the original owners passed on, this 1969 Fleetwood Brougham was stripped to bare metal and repainted by a friend of mine in the early 1990s for a friend of his. The car was very solid (including the typically troublesome lower front fenders, still pristine) but had surface pitting under the original finish. He presented the car to his friend who enjoyed it a little while before he was no longer able to drive. The car has always been very straight and free of door dings due to the moulding that was replaced following the full repaint. Apart from the rust under the back window, the car is completely solid throughout - down the sides and underneath is as clean as it could be. All chrome and brightwork is original and still shines well. There is no heavy pitting to any diecast (pot metal) parts as is common with Cadillacs of this vintage. The vinyl top is also original from 1969 but good correct reproductions in the original material are available. It's got some shrinkage and should be replaced. In the early part of the last decade, I admired this car in the collection of my friend, who inherited it on the passing of his friend for whom he restored it. I tried to buy it a number of times and was finally successful, but only after I hadn't seen it for some years. On receiving the car here, I immediately set to work on many mechanical items and began accumulating parts to carry out a comprehensive restoration. A list of everything the car has received since a year ago is below. You will notice that this Fleetwood Brougham has the very rare passenger door mirror that was standard only on the Fleetwood 75 9-passenger sedans and limousines. It was a rare option on all other models. The car's black leather interior (with very rare 60/40 dual power seats up front) remains intact though slightly shrunken from heat out west. There are no cracks in the hides and it's very likely that professional attention will allow it to be saved in a restoration. Original dash is completely uncracked. The steering wheel has some loss under the leather cover and an auxiliary button replaces the 'rim-blow' feature. This wheel can now be restored by a handful of specialists that were not able to do this just a few years ago. The tilt and telescopic steering column is still tight and a rare option on a 1969 Cadillac. The twilight sentinel option still works and the cruise control works sporadically, so it probably just needs a calibration. Yes, the 8-track works! Another detail shot of the front seat. And the back seat. Most of the work to this Fleetwood Brougham is under the hood and underneath. All hoses, belts were changed, lots of refinishing and cleaning, a rebuilt carburetor by Carolina Carburetors, new fuel pump and stainless-steel fuel line, new AC Delco battery and alternator, water pump, emissions air pump delete using 1970 parts to look clean, all ignition parts including Pertronix Ignitor and coil, all air conditioning hoses and components (aside from the condenser and evaporator) including a new compressor (requires oil when charging, currently un-charged) and a POA update kit... on and on. I will put a comprehensive list beneath. Yes, I have verified that the engine and transmission are numbers-matching and I doubt that the rear end was changed, it is an original limited-slip Cadillac rear. Underneath, all four wheels have new brakes including a new brake master cylinder up top, all new springs, shocks, ball joints, bushings, steering parts (except power steering box, which is fine) - it was done comprehensively front and rear. I even had the control arms et.c. powdercoated, a tall bill in and of itself. As a result of the following work, the car runs, rides and drives very well: - OIL & FILTER, 5 QTS BG SHEAR GUARD 10W30, AC PF 24 - CARB TO CAROLINA CARBURETORS, RESTORED TO SHOW-QUALITY CONDITION - REMAN DISTRIBUTOR WITH PERTRONIX IGNITOR AND FLAMETHROWER COIL - NEW AC DELCO CAP/ROTOR/R44 PLUGS/WIRES/AIR FILTER - REPLACED LOWER INLINE FUEL FILTER, NEW AIRTEX FUEL PUMP - NEW GATES UPPER AND LOWER HOSES, THERMOID HEATER HOSES - NEW AC DELCO HEATER VALVE - NEW AC DELCO EXPANSION VALVE - NEW A6 COMPRESSOR, R-DRIER, ORIG. A/C HOSES REDONE, POA REFIT KIT - AUTO AIR OF VA, DALE. (system is not charged, some mineral oil leaked from compressor on installation - replace on charging) - NEW WATER PUMP - 3 NEW AC DELCO V-BELTS - NEW GATES 180F THERMOSTAT AND GASKET - REMAN REMY ORIGINAL-TYPE 63A ALTERNATOR - DELETION OF A.I.R. SYSTEM, PIPE AND PUMP - RESTORED 1970 CADILLAC CRANK, WATER PUMP PULLEYS, ALTERNATOR BRACKETS - CAD HEAVEN WILM., NC - VALVE COVERS BLASTED AND PAINTED, NEW GASKETS - TOP AND FRONT OF ENGINE DETAILED, FAN, FAN CLUTCH, P/S PUMP - AIR CLEANER ASSEMBLY RESTORED BY TONY WILSON, SINGLE-STAGE BLACK ENAMEL - NEW VACUUM HOSES - NEW AC DELCO PROFESSIONAL 6 YEAR BATTERY - NEW TRANSMISSION MOUNT - TRANSMISSION SERVICE - 4 QTS PENNZOIL ATF, AC DELCO FILTER & GASKET, PAN CLEANED/PAINTED - 5 NEW 235/75/15 TIRES - DRAG LINK, TIE RODS, CENTER LINK, BALL JOINTS, ALL CONTROL ARM/REAR SUSPENSION BUSHINGS, ALL SHOCKS, ALL SPRINGS, ALL BRAKES AT ALL FOUR WHEELS (CALIPERS, DISCS, CYLINDERS, PADS, SHOES, HARDWARE, HOSES ET.C. ET.C.), BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, NOTHING MISSED, ALIGNED - MILLS. I've been stashing parts away for this car for quite a while and will include a good collection of new reproduction weatherstripping and many new, NOS or gently-used items. I also have a nearly NOS 1969 owners manual and original factory 1969 service manual. You will not be disappointed with the quality of the work done so far or the stuff that comes with it at this price. Over 100 hours - probably more like 200 - have gone into this car. It pains me to let it go but I travel a lot and just don't have the necessary time or focus to complete it as I would like. My loss is your gain as this is a very rare car in the Cadillac & LaSalle Club directory (I am life member #18425 and have owned scores of vintage Cadillacs), particularly in a leather-equipped Brougham in beautiful colors. Once the body and paint work is done and some other fettling is completed, this will be a fantastic looking Cadillac and one of very few examples anywhere. It is a special car having a fully-known history and in that it is generally solid, particularly in most of the troublesome areas. payment and shipping Successful bidder must pay for the car within seven days of auction close unless alternate arrangements are made with me in advance of any bid. I am not a bank and I do not extend financing. Accepted methods of payment include cash on pickup, cashier's cheque or wire transfer cleared in my account prior to pickup or shipment. Your bid is a contract to buy, not to look or second-guess your decision, so if you feel you need an external inspection, please do that prior to the close of auction. Shipping needs to take place within fourteen days of auction close unless alternate arrangements are made with me in advance. I will be out of town approximately from 28 March through 2 April in northeastern Ohio, but it is not impossible for the car to be made ready for pickup in my absence or for pickup to be delayed until shortly after my return assuming that payment is in hand. We'll work it out. Can you drive the car home across town or across the country? Probably, I've driven many examples that were a lot worse at least that far; I just cannot give any guarantees.
