Vehicle Detail

1971-1/2 Land Rover Series IIA 88" The Series IIA was made up until the middle of 1971. This particular vehicle has a build date of 06/1971. It is one of the very last ones made before the Series III was put into production at mid year! In fact, when I looked up the NADA web site to determine value, they stated that the Series II was only made up until 1970, and that the Series III came out in 1971. I worked for several months to provide them the required information proving that Series II's were made until mid year of '71. So, as an interesting side note, this very vehicle was responsible for correcting the NADA web site reflecting the mid '71 Series IIA production! This web site states that only 10,200 1971 Series IIA 88" Rovers were ever made world wide. http://www.lrfaq.org/FAQ.3.LR_production.html "The Series IIA is considered by many the most hardy Series model constructed. It is also the type of classic Land Rover that features strongly in the general public's perception of the Land Rover, from its many appearances in popular films and television documentaries set in Africa throughout the 1960s, such as Born Free. In February 1968, just a few months after its manufacturer had been subsumed, under government pressure, into the Leyland Motor Corporation, the Land Rover celebrated its twentieth birthday, with total production to date just short of 600,000, of which more than 70% had been exported. Certainly it was whilst the Series IIA was in production that sales of utility Land Rovers reached their peak, in 1969-70, when sales of over 60,000 Land Rovers a year were recorded. (For comparison, the sales of the Defender in recent years have been around the 25,000 level since the 1990s.) As well as record sales, the Land Rover dominated many world markets- in Australia in the 1960s Land Rover held 90% of the 4×4 market. This figure was repeated in many countries in Africa and the Middle East."Vehicle has good Missouri title in my name. It has the original four cylinder 2.25L (2286cc) gas engine #30701976B. These are VERY COOL 4x4's and were designed to outperform jeeps with ease. The drive train is set over to one side so you can go over bigger boulders. If I remember right, the vertical wheel travel is 17". The body is made of a special aluminum alloy which will not rust. The transmission has 2WD, 4WD, and 4WD low. There is even a PTO (power take off) so you can run equipment like a pump or sawmill out in the boonies! I also have the ventilated roof cover and the original luggage rack that goes with. The passenger side windscreen has a crack, but I have a spare glass for it. Also there is a seat for the rear compartment that is not shown and is stored in the garage. I bought this Land Rover from a neighbors father. He was the park district manager for Festus Missouri and even has one of their larger lakes/parks named after him! This car was his baby and he drove it to all the events with historical vehicle plates mounted on it. It is in "daily driver" condition and would be a great rock crawler or very good candidate for a restoration. I am selling it now because of health reasons, and a few too many projects. Last year we took it back in the woods deer hunting, however this year, I haven't been able to get it started and unfortunately I am now unable to tinker with it. The battery is not so good and she just cranks slowly. It often liked a shot of starting fluid to get going. So I expect that the carb could use a cleaning and some fresh gas for the tank even though I put some additives in it last year. I believe there is actually a drain plug for the gas tank too! She's a survivor. The chassis is solid. It has been stored inside most of it's life! The body is relatively dent free with just some minor dings. The paint looks like it was done with a spray can, and looks pretty good from about 50 feet. ; ) I have many Land Rover receipts for parts purchased and repairs done totaling a few thousand dollars. Items such as new tires, brake shoes, front & rear brake hoses, brake master cylinder, bulbs, flashers, fuel pump, replace clutch master and slave cylinder, overhaul carburetor, replaced wheel cylinders, turn signal switch, headlamp switch, new gas tank, repair fuel sending unit. It has a tow bar attached with a 1-7/8" hitch. There are tow hitches with balls mounted both front and rear. The brush guard must have been used to pull something as it is bent and needs to be straightened.
