Vehicle Detail
1961 Metropolitan 2 Dr Hard Top. One of 964 Metropolitans made in 1961. Two tone black and white with matching interior. This is a true surviver, in storage since 1982 in a small NW Missouri town. At one point the previous owner with good intentions started to disassemble and restore this little car but never completed the process. Although the body is not perfect, over all it is very straight and very solid. There has been some light body work done in a few places mostly on the passenger side and the previous owner states that was done to repair dings and dents and not rust and that appears to be correct. The floor pans as you can see from the pictures look very good and there are two small patches that have been installed to repair rust. Also the trunk floor looks very good. All of the glass is in place and is in excellent condition with no cracks scratches or wiper marks. I'm going to say that exterior trim is about 50/50 half of it is excellent and the other half needs to be rechromed or replaced. The interior is what will need the most work, the cushions and covers are gone leaving only the frames and springs, there is no carpet, no door panels, and no headliner. The dash appears to be complete with all the insturments, knobs, radio, and ashtray. The drive train appears to be complete with the original 4 cylinder engine and a 3 speed manual transmission. The engine will turn over by hand and is not siezed up, but has not been started in years. The odomerter reads 24,270 miles, but I have no documentation to verify actuality. The picture of the parts on the ground is everything that I have for the car. This car would be an easy restoration due to the lack of body work needed and parts are readily available for the Metropolitans at a variety of suppliers. This car would enhance any car collection. Comes with a good Missouri title.I have tried to describe this little car to the best of my ability but have probably missed something that you would like to know, if so just ask. If you would like to inspect the car in person prior to the end of the auction again just ask and arrangements will be made. This car is sold as is where is and the buyer will be responsible for all transportation costs if required.
