1976 Mercedes Benz 450SL 450 SL Convertible Running Project NR See the Picture This auction is for a used, 1976 Mercedes Benz 450SL. It has been sitting for years, It took 5 minutes after charging the battery to get it running. Several years ago the car failed the California Smog test (most stringent in the nation). The mechanic stated that the timing chain was sloppy and was throwing off the timing. I parked it. It was trailered to Nevada for a time until my brother got married and his new wife wanted it gone, so it came back home. It is 99.9% complete, no parts have been taken. It has the wooden steering wheel (check eBay the steering wheel sells for hundreds alone). It has the removable hard top. The soft top canvas needs to be replaced. The hoods both front and back have some rust and dents. The convertible top lid has some rust. The car spent its life in Southern California and had 3 owners. The engine was rebuilt once, it has the papers. Overall these cars are so much fun. It has massive DMV fees in California and it is sold as parts only. If you live in another state like Nevada you may not need to smog it at all, check your states regulations. You will need to trailer it out of here, as it is not registered and it has not been maintained. The tires hold air. Spider webs and dust included. The issues that may need to be addressed, timing chain, brakes are soft, passenger window switch works intermittently, the door locking system is intermittent also. The transmission needs to warm up if it is cold out before it works correctly, the soft top needs new canvas. That is what I remember and since then it may have other problems, which I have not learned of. It is a project, it does run. Ebay charges a $60 auction fee for most vehicles add one dollar for me and that is the starting price. Sold as parts only and you will need to bring a trailer. Note: It is in San Luis Obispo, California, half way between Santa Barbara and Monterey. In 2011 national geographic named us the Happiest Town in America.
