Vehicle Detail
I'm selling my 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider Veloce that I bought last year on eBay. I purchased the car from a dealer in New York who sold the car for the estate of a gentlemen who had the Alfa in his car collection for several years. I was told there were two previous owners. I was also told that the car was a nice driver, but when I received it, I found it needed some work to get it into good driving condition. I brought the car to the best Alfa repair shop in South Florida and had repairs totaling about $6,000 prerformed on the car to ensure it would be an excellent driver. Invoices detailing the work are available upon request. Fortunately, the engine was in great shape with strong compression on all cylinders. The transmission is also quite smooth - no grinding. The electrical system has been repaired so all lights and gages work. The interior is in very good shape (given the age of the car). The dash is in great shape as is the carpet and seats. The only problems are that the glove box is missing a button and there is small crack on the plastic on the driver side door. I added a new classic-look stereo from Classic Audio that looks like it belongs in the car, yet is all digital and has an iPod adaptor. I'm not happy with the faceplate that came with the stereo - Classic Audio has a Porsche faceplate that would look better and can be easily obtained. I also bought new side mirrors in the original style to replace the more modern mirrors that came with the car but they haven't been installed - of course they'll come with the car. The top is in good shape - no rips or tears. The paint job on the car is fair. It looks great driving down the road, but there are a few scuffs primarily on the trunk lid. The previous owner had undercoated the car had wrapped a layer of undercoating around the bottom of the body panels to prevent rust. I had planned to strip the car, including the undercoating and have it painted Alfa red. However, after the car came out of the shop, I found it was too difficult for me to drive because I have a bad hip and shifting the clutch is just too difficult for me. You'd think I would have test driven a Spider before buying one, but I had several manual transmission cars when I was young and I just assumed I could adjust to driving it. Oh well. Once I learned I wouldn't be able to drive the car, I decided to forgo the paint job and simply find the car a new home with an owner who would both appreciate and drive it. Although I'm going to take a loss on the car, I will have the satisfaction of knowing I will be passing on a safe, reliable driver that will be a lot of fun to take out on the road.
