Vehicle Detail
THIS IS THE CAR PONTIAC SHOULD HAVE BUILT! I THINK EVEN THE DIE HARD TRANS AM GUYS WILL AGREE WITH THE ABOVE STATEMENT AFTER LOOKING AT THIS AUCTION. IN 1970 YOU COULD BUY ALOT OF GREAT MUSCLE CARS DEPENDING ON YOUR BUDGET BUT EVEN IF YOU HAD DONALD TRUMP'S MONEY YOU COULDN'T BUY A SILVER TRANS AM. BUT EVEN IF YOU DID BUY ONE AND IMMEDIATELY PAINTED IT SILVER,YOU STILL WOULDN'T HAVE ONE WITH A 455! SO I THINK YOU CAN SEE WHERE I AM GOING AND WHY SOMEONE TOOK A LOW MILEAGE FIREBIRD AND CUSTOMIZED IT INTO THE PERFECT 1970 TRANS AM SHOW CAR! FOR ALL THOSE LOOKING FOR AN ORIGINAL 1970 TRANS AM THIS WOULD BE A GOOD TIME TO JUST STOP LOOKING BECAUSE THIS IS NOT THE CAR YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. NOW, FOR ALL THOSE WANTING AN ORIGINAL 1980'S SHOW CAR VERSION OF THE PERFECT TRANS AM THAT IS VERY FAST, VERY FUN AND AFFORDABLE.......THEN KEEP READING! I can only tell the following information as it was told to me and the facts that I know from owning and driving this fantastic muscle car the last six months. Even though this car was completely customized from a low mileage Firebird into the so called perfect Trans Am some 25+ years ago, it has remained basically unmolested and still looks better than most muscle cars that have been previously restored within 5 to 10 years. The customizing was completed to compete in the popular 1980’s-90's World of Wheels car shows with the PERFECT TRANS AM. They improved everything on Pontiac's version of the 1970 Trans Am by first applying silver paint with a custom blue & black center stripe. Followed with complete Trans Am interior including looking through a factory Trans Am steering wheel at the 8000rpm tach with a 160mph speedometer in the Radial Tuned Suspension T/A dash panel. Of course the seats and panels were covered in a soft black diamond tuck fabric (a must with EVERY show car from that period in time). Then the door handles were shaved and the bolted on wheel flares & rear spoiler were completely molded in, along with the T/A front fender vents. This gave the car a truly unique look of an actual race car off of the Trans Am Race Series (actually what GM named the car after). In order to claim this was the PERFECT TRANS AM and the car Pontiac should have built you know that Pontiac's largest engine was sure to be installed. So a `built 455 (out of a 1974 Trans Am) was dropped in with a 4 spd transmission transferring its horsepower to the 4.10 posi rear end. Oh and of course the ol’ Alpine CD player that was a must have with anyone who could afford it was installed despite finding CD's to play in it was close to impossible at the time. After its show car days, the 455 was upgraded with aluminum intake, Holley carburetor, and the original 455 heads were replaced with late model 400 heads which was popular during that time to increase the compression ratio. This was done because its new owner wanted it for the occasional weekend 4-speed drag races. And that is where it spent the next decade – being pulled from a garage, driven to the drag strip, and driven home. Because of this fact and such little use, the car basically remained unchanged other than removing the diamond tuck fabric off of the two front buckets. I guess the diamond tuck interior “wasn’t popular at the drag strip”. When I purchased this car, I was told the above information over the phone so when it arrived, I was expecting a car that would need complete restoration in order to be driven proudly. What I received is a car that truly is the perfect driver. It looks good. It’s dependable, fast and fun to drive. As it sits now it is ready to hit the road for any cruise-in and other than recovering the front seats with diamond tuck (which is now back in style) to match the rear seats or replacing all interior with factory Trans Am upholstery, basically this car needs nothing to be driven to your local weekend car shows. Now, after you look at the picture's and video's you will see for yourself everything I described above to be more than accurate. What you won't see speaks volumes about the craftsmanship that went into making this car over a ¼ century ago and still amazes me even after a lifetime in the automotive business. So, I will try to describe what is there but can't be noticed even as close as a foot away. Obviously there is some paint cracking mostly because the wheel flares, shaved door handles, T/A fender vents and rear spoiler being molded in smooth well over 2 decades ago . But as you can see by the pictures even with the small cracks in the paint around those areas and the normal wear on a body 42 years old that this car still looks great and could be driven proudly every day. I have had the car on my lift and it still has all the original body panels and the complete factory “red oxide” floor boards. All the usual & normal places were rust is an issue in cars over 20 years old like the lower front fenders, lower rear ¼ panels, wheel wells, inner fenders, rocker panels, floor pans, truck pan, front cowl panel, upper dash panel, the trunk molding lip and behind the front & rear windows are all rust free. In fact the only area where I can see any evidence of rust is just some bubbles in the paint at the bottom corners of the doors. It appears in the of couple months it took me to finalize a deal with this car's previous owner that he made an attempt to modernize the interior because it has a new dark blue factory Trans Am headliner and 2 large pieces of the same material leftover to cover the rear sail panels. He also made an attempt to install new black carpet and new GM door scuff panels. I say attempt because he just used a new black carpet instead of spending the $130 for brand new factory GM molding carpet. After I got the car and inspected it from front to back, I came to the conculsion that this car would be better off if basically just left alone. It appeared to be free of any leaks and a recent heavy duty clutch assembly had been installed, but detailed and tuned up, would make the perfect weekend driver. So I had the undercarriage pressure washed then professionally sprayed with a Kevlar bedliner. I bought an Energy Suspension bushings kit and started by completely replacing all the front sway bar's bolts, brackets & bushings but before I got to install any of the remaining new bushings I aggravated an old back injury left by an auto accident from 4 years ago. But don't worry the new bushings are included with this auction. Fortunately, I had already changed the spark plugs, oil, filter, fuel filter, gas line, thermostat gasket, spark plug wires and flushed the radiator before my back went out so the car has already had a recent major tune up. While I am speaking on items included with this auction I might as well mention them all now, the original chrome valve covers, original GM 4 barrel intake, distributor, push rods, rockers, water pump, power steering pump with brackets and power steering box. In case you want to change the shaved door handles back to original, also included are door handles, the misc parts regarding the handles and a brand new set of locks & keys. Also included is a brand new set of dash gauge bezels and a new trim piece that goes behind the temperature control panel. There are a couple of plastic containers full of the misc. parts that have been removed or replaced on this car over the several decades and of course they are included with this car's auction. Also included is a set of Pontiac Rally II wheels, chrome trim rings ,center caps and tires. Since they were on the car when I bought it, basically they have been on this car for decades so of course also are period correct with the rear tires being larger, taller & wider than the front tires .What is NOT INCLUDED in this auction is the COY C-67 wheels and tires because they are off of a rotisserie restored 67 Firebird show car of mine. However, ONLY THE WINNING BIDDER can buy them for $1,000 above the winning bid because I could use a set of factory Pontiac wheels as an extra set for my 67 Firebird and just buy another set of COY's. The COY C-67's are new with less than 500 miles, the rear are 18 x 9 and the front are 17 x 8. They have high performance ZR rated tires on them along with "TRUE" spinner center caps. I put the Pontiac wheels on my 67 because I was taking it to a shop to have some work done and I didn't want to take the chance of the COY'S being damaged or stolen. This left the '70 sitting on my lift without any wheels whatsoever so when I needed the lift to work on a drag car, I just threw the COY's on just so I could move it. I wasn't really paying much attention to the '70 because I was focused on the drag car so I backed it outside my shop and got back to work. When I walked back out at the end of the day to pull the '70 inside, I noticed just how FANTASTIC & CURRENT it looked with the COY's so that is the reason I left them on for the auction in case you feel the same way. I have a long standing relationship with COY WHEEL's and not enough people know just how great a wheel they make so to me these C-67's completely transform this 80's show car into the look of a modern muscle car. Since that is just my opinion the winning bidder has option I mentioned above and there is a picture of the Pontiac Rally II's on my '67 Firebird included in this auction's pictures. Please look at all the picture's closely, watch the videos and I know it's long but please read my description carefully. You may also notice in the pictures that nowhere on this car will you see a TRAMS AM decal because it was customized as "THE CAR PONTIAC SHOULD HAVE BUILT" and does not deserve to be labled as a tribute car! You can drive this car proudly because it will not disappoint you! That's why I say that this car's 42 year old current condition really is hard to believe and gives true meaning to the phrase “they don't make them like they use to!” * I have tried to describe this car to the best of my ability, "I think anyone who just read my long description will agree!" With that being said, I welcome anyone to come and inspect the car personally or contact me at 704-754-1085 for any additonal pictures or videos. Please look at my other item's for sale because I will be posting alot of rare muscle car part's and high performance item's throughout the next week. ZERO FEEDBACK's need permission to bid On Jan-28-12 at 09:17:28 PST, seller added the following information: * I WANTED TO REMIND ALL THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE OPENING A NEW EBAY ACCOUNT AFTER WATCHING THE MECUM COLLECTOR CAR AUCTION (KISSIMMEE FLA) LIVE ON TV THIS WEEKEND TO PLEASE EMAIL ME THROUGH EBAY BEFORE BIDDING ON THIS AUCTION WITH A BRAND NEW ACCOUNT AND ZERO FEEDBACK. HOWEVER, IT IS VERY EASY TO RUIN MY AUCTION'S SUCCESS OR ANOTHER EBAYER'S HOPES OF WINNING THIS AUCTION JUST BY BEING BRAND NEW TO EBAY AND UNFAMILIAR WITH THE "IN'S & OUT'S" OF EBAY AUCTIONS. SO PLEASE REMEMBER TO GET APPROVAL FROM ME PRIOR TO BIDDING IF YOUR HAVE A NEW ACCOUNT WITH ZERO FEEDBACK!
