My name is Chris Hansen and I have up for auction, my pride and joy, my 1997 Mustang Cobra with only 46,000 original miles. Before we get started, I want you to understand what you are bidding on. In order for you to truly understand how magnificent this car really is you need to know the back story. As a boy growing up I was always a huge fan of Mustangs. It wasn’t so much how fast they were or how nice they looked in red… No, for me it was the Sound! That Harmonious tone Mustangs share with all of their fans. All Mustangs have that tone but none as distinct as the “Cobra”! I could always decipher the difference when a Cobra approached. It was like the call of a King of a pride of lions. All other Mustangs bowed their heads in respect when a Cobra was present. Well this is still true today. I used to dream of one day owning a Cobra but it was never quite within my grasp. I would look from time to time but never found the right one. Two and a half years ago all of that changed. I am a Mercedes-Benz client advisor. (What can I say, I am a car guy) While on a test drive with one of my clients, he gave me some advice I took to heart. He said “Chris, don’t wait until you retire to get the car of your dreams, get it now so you can enjoy it.” That night my search began for a 1997 Mustang Cobra. 1997 was the best year for the naturally aspirated Cobra. The SVT had addressed the air flow issues of the 1996, they added a strut tower brace which increased chassis rigidity by 30% and it came in my favorite color for the Mustang Cobra, Rio Red… My friend Marc from MSClassicCars.com and I looked for weeks until we found this bone stock 97 Mustang Cobra with 22,000 original miles on it. This car was in New Jersey and was owned by a 75 year old couple. They had purchased the car from their daughter in 2007 and drove it on the weekends. They decided to sell it when their grandson started to show an interest in it. He didn’t even have his license yet but he knew what they had sitting in the garage. After my first conversation with the gentleman in New Jersey, I knew I had to have this car. It was so well kept and beautifully maintained by the older fellow. Without hesitation, I paid asking price, hopped on a plane to NJ and drove home to RI in the car of my dreams. The plan was to keep the car stock as it was but once I replaced the pony emblem in the front with a Cobra, the ideas just kept coming. Each thing I did added to the cars prowess and made it more unique. Everything was done tastefully and nothing was over the top. Since its first owner, this Cobra has been adult owned and driven for pleasure. It has always been shown a great deal of respect and my hope is the new owner will do the same.
