Vehicle Detail

A little history… I purchased this scout in 1995 as a daily driver and something I could use for every type of outdoor adventure with the family. Slowly but surely over the 15 years I have been repairing/rebuilding it using the philosophy of “Reliability before Beauty” and thinking that I would give it off to one of my kids. Now that they are all grown none of them are interested in taking it over and I no longer use it for its intended purpose. It stopped being my daily driver about 4 years ago, but I still used it during the winter when the weather was bad as well as for hunting in the high country. I do however drive it a few times a month to keep everything lubed up and working. The milage entered in the details reflects the milage following the rebuild. The odometer reads 83014 but the rebuild was at 69752. About the truck… I have completed quite a bit of work on the truck and have done my best to cover everything below. Rebuilt 345 – With the exception of the crank, pistons, timing gears, covers, heads and block, all internal parts were replaced (cam, lifters, rings, bearings, etc). Exhaust ports on the heads were machined to remove the lobes created for the emissions rail and create better air flow. Replaced 2 bbl intake with 4 bbl. Replaced radiator Rewired front to back with harness from Painless Wiring to fix all electrical issues. All original end connectors were cleaned/reused and I hand soldered all spliced connections (no crimp connectors). New electronic ignition module (Gold box). Replaced stock finger type clutch with 11” diaphragm clutch Rebuilt steering box Replaced rag joint with Borgeson steering coupler Straight steer brace 4” Triangle lift with new eye bushings Extended brake lines Z-Bar drag link Replaced body supports and bushings. Gussets added to reinforce front spring mounts Custom Front bumper with winch tray. Custom spare tire mount. Replaced Headliner, door panel covers and inside bed panels Within the last year… Rebuilt Holly 600 Carburetor w/ electric choke (got tired of the manual one) New Battery (First one lasted 12 years) Power booster and master cylinder (Original ones started leaking) Also included… Replacement Front Grill Assy. (Got bumped in a parking lot see photos), Spare transfer case, Original front bumper and some other smaller miscellaneous items. What I had not got to … The body overall is solid and I have had some repairs done already, but there is more to be done particularly on the rear quarter panels, rocker panels and the front passenger fender (See Photos). Also a new tie rod, ends and ball joints would help with road manners. Other than that, this is a solid rig that has never left me stranded and is at a great starting point for a new owner to make it his. This pretty much covers it, although I might have still missed a few things, so if you have any questions let me know and I will answer them as quickly as possible.
