We recently acquired a full sized car carrier because I have outgrown this rollback. I purchased this truck about a year ago from a gentleman in WV. As with all of my auctions, this truck will be sold to the highest bidder with NO RESERVE. My vehicles are available to be inspected and test driven by interested parties at my York, PA storage facility. It is my goal to represent each vehicle I sell as accurately as possible to the best of my ability. Up for a NO RESERVE auction today is a 1988 Ford Super Dury Rollback. As I said previously, this has been my personal transport vehicle for the last year. It has treated me very well but my business has grown and I need something that can haul more vehicles at a time. This truck is not exactly pretty. I would rate its exterior condition as AVERAGE considering the age of the truck. It looks ok from several feet away. Up close, you will notice that the clear coat is peeling from the hood. The cab isn't really rusty...just a few spots where the mirrors mount to the door. It has dual tanks (20 gal each) and both tanks work. The outside right, rear tire should be replaced due to dry rot before putting this truck into regular service. The other tires are fine. All of the truck lights work. The frame looks good, too. Vehicles this age are exempt from odometer disclosure. The odometer currently reads just under 100,000 but I have no way to know if it has rolled or not. I was told the miles were actual when I bought it but I don't know for certain. I know the guy I bought it from used it for personal transport...not a towing company... so it isn't impossible to be actual miles. I just don't know for sure. The bed set up on this truck is a steel bed which is in decent condition. There is some rust at the side rails but the bed is solid. This truck is also equipped with a wheel lift to haul a second car. The wheel lift works properly and the attachments are in the tool box and will go with the truck. The winch is a PTO driven Ramsey 10,000 # unit with a 5/8"cable and heavy duty hook. All of the hydraulics work properly. The light up on the light bar is cracked on the one side. The flashers, floods and signal lights all work up top. The rotators work intermittantly. I don't use them so I never messed with it...I couldn't tell you the last time they were lubricated. The hydraulic system has dual sided controls so the bed can be operated from either side of the truck. The interior of this truck is actually in decent shape for the age of the truck. One really nice thing I liked about this truck is that it comes in the XLT trim which gives you the nicer seat nicer equippment. The seat in in good shape. It could probably use cleaned but there are no rips or worn out spots. Being an XLT, this truck has power windows and locks. The windows both work great...locks are DOA (normal 80's Ford). The stereo has been upgraded to a more modern unit but is still a Ford stereo which doesn't actually sound bad. The heater works great. The windows are tinted. This truck even comes with the original owners manual. The only annoying thing about this truck is that the instrument panel is not very reliable. Out of all the gauges, the volt is the only reliable one. The tach works fine once the engine is warm. The temperature gauge works most of the time. The oil pressure gauge works some of the time. The fuel gauge has never worked for me. Recently, the speedometer has decided to quit for no apparent reason. There has to be something loose but I wouldn't know where to start. I had a Mustang where the problem ended up being the cluster itself. Mechanically, this is a good running truck. In the year I've owned this truck, I have replaced the following: Clutch Flywheel (now single mass) Alternator Battery (one) PTO cable Starter The 7.3L IDI engine starts easily and runs pretty smoothly. You do need to use the block heater when the temps get close to freezing. It smokes just a little when you first start it but that's really it. I am told by my mechanic that it is one of the best running non-turbo 7.3's he has ever driven. It drives pretty well out on the highway. It's geared pretty high so I only run it at about 65. It uses oil but not excessively (depending on how hard you drive it). Like I said, she has treated me very well over the last year. It's nothing fancy but it gets the job done reliably. The only time it ever left me sit was when the flywheel blew apart. I average 14mpg which isn't too bad (half loaded, half empty) for an older truck. The transmission shifts well. Reverse sometimes fights you. The brakes are disc all around but still not that impressive. My mechanic joked "if you wanna go...get a Ford, if you wanna stop...get a Chevy". Apparently Chevy's have better brakes than Ford. I asked him to look at the brakes and he said they were fine. I can't think of much else to say... If you have any questions, email me.
