Vehicle Detail
The 1957 Corvette offered has had two owners from new. It is being sold on an original 1957 California title (pink slip), a copy of which I have included as one of the photos. It was sold new in Escondido, California (near San Diego) in mid-1957. It was meticulously maintained by its first owner for 19 years. In that time, it traveled about 2750 miles per year...or about 52,000 miles...the total that appears on the odometer today. In 1976, when the first owner decided it was time to part with the car, it was traded to a new car automobile dealer. Realizing even at that time he had taken in something special, the new car dealer principal placed the car in his warehouse under cover where it was forgotten and sat undisturbed for 35 years. That gentleman recently sold his car dealership, retired, and has asked me to find a new home for the Corvette. This Corvette is not restored. It has its original factory paint, factory interior, factory carpet and the mileage is authentic. The body paint from new shows only a few minor stress cracks in several places and a few minor nicks. The interior is as new...seats are as perfect as can be for 54 years and the carpets the same way. The dash is wonderful as shown in the pictures and all gauges work perfectly. The Wonder Bar radio is fully operational. The tachometer and tach counter operate perfectly. It has a factory hardtop in excellent condition and a perfect fit. It has a factory power convertible top which I dont think has ever been up. I believe the tires and spare tire may be as factory delivered. I can't see how they are not. This Corvette has its original 283 ci V8 with Dual Quad (Twin-4 bbl), Powerglide automatic transmission, and all shielding. Every wire is as factory delivered. This Corvette was recently transported from its storage facility to an expert for a thorough cleaning and detail...only new oil, filter, and battery were installed. The car runs and drives just as it should. Upon a thorough inspection, it has been determined unequivacably that there is NOT a single replacement part or new component which has EVER been installed on this car...this car is JUST the way it left the factory 54 years ago. If you are a Corvette collector...or simply a collector of great, unrestored cars...please pay close attention. Questions on any detail are most welcomed. I will do my best to accomodate any specific request or photo. This is a museum piece for sure and a once in a lifetime opportunity. On Dec-20-11 at 18:57:21 PST, seller added the following information: To all prospective bidders and lookers: I have received literally a hundred inquiries and/or requests for addtional information or photographs regarding this Corvette. The car is currently in Ventura, CA at a master hot rod builder'a location...the gentleman I had detail the car after it left its 35 year hibernation. We are working on a number of requests for photos of every inch of the car...I have requests for at least 50 detail photos. We have no secrets. We are happy to comply with every request, but it may talke a day or more to get all of the photos requested. In the meantime, this vehicle is available for inspection to any potential bidder. I urge you to NOT bid based on this listing. However...you can view the car in person or have any expert inspect the car upon request. Just let me know.On Dec-21-11 at 20:43:55 PST, seller added the following information: In response to inquiries I have received from all over the country, I have added more pictures. On Dec-23-11 at 09:05:16 PST, seller added the following information: To all watchers of this car: When I accepted the responsibility of offering this Corvette on EBay for its actual owner, I expected the car might get a few hundred hits and I would have to answer a few questions and/or send some photos to a few prospective bidders. Five or ten bids. Sale or no sale. As anyone can plainly see, the number of views is substantial and the number of additional information and/or picture requests I have received has become overwhelming…especially with Christmas just a few days away. I’d like to accommodate every request, including those who have asked and those I have invited to inspect the car prior to bidding. The owner also wants any prospective buyer to see the car if at all possible. It should be noted that one man who inspected it earlier this week was a Corvette re-seller with over 30 years of experience, and he said the car was the finest unrestored ’57 he had ever seen. I realize this is just one man's opinion. We’d simply like as many potential buyers as possible to view the car prior to a sale. But with the auction closing the day after Christmas, it’s become impossible to accommodate every request, and many people just can't get to the car. With these facts in mind, the owner has agreed with me to withdraw the car from this auction with the idea that we will relist it after the holidays.
