Each vehicle is thoroughly road tested before being listed on eBay so I can describe how it looks, runs and drives as accurately as possible. If you're willing to take a little chance, you can save a lot of money. Vehicles are available for inspection by appointment only at my York, PA storage facility. An administrative fee of $149 will be added to the final bid of each auction. Please read this entire description before bidding. Please review the photos closely also, they are as important as the verbal description. Up for a NO RESERVE auction today is a 1997 Ford Explorer. This Explorer is outfitted in the XLT trim and comes equipped with a manual transmission which is very uncommon. I would rate the exterior condition of this Explorer as ABOVE AVERAGE for the age and miles of the vehicle. Please expect to find some evidence of normal use. The reason this Explorer gets the ABOVE AVERAGE exterior grade is because there is no rust on the body. Explorers are known to rust out at the rocker panels by the rear doors...and this one doesn't show a spec of rust. There are some scratches and such here and there but nothing out of character for an SUV of this age. All of the glass and lenses appear to be in tact. The tires show average tread all around. I would rate the interior of this Explorer as AVERAGE for the age and miles of the vehicle. All of the door panels are clean and in tact. The carpets show some normal wear from use but are in decent condition, all things considered. The seats are comfortable and show no unusual wear. This Explorer is optioned with power windows, locks and mirrors...all of which are working properly. The heater works well. This truck is equipped with air conditioning but it hasn't been out of the 30's since I got this truck. The stereo has been upgraded to a CD system which sounds good. There are some extra wires...I suppose to extra speakers...which could probably be removed. All of the original books and manuals are in the glove box. Mechanically, this Explorer appears to be in average condition. The 4.0L V6 starts easily and runs smoothly. I didn't see any signs of active leaks at the engine. The front suspension is a little loose and could probably use shocks or bushings. The steering is tight and responsive. The brakes feel good. The clutch is questionable. It grabs right off the floor and has little pedal travel. It feels like the clutch may not have much life left in it. It doesn't slip or chatter...but it is difficult to shift (although double-clutching helps). It may be in need of adjustment in the cable, too. When you're at a light with the clutch in and let off the brake, the truck will inch forward. It should get you through the winter if you can drive right. I had it through all five gears and up to about 60 on the highway. It doesn't drive too badly for an older truck. The 4WD appears to be working properly. I've seen a check engine light twice but it goes off then. Please be realistic with your expectations of this truck. It's far from perfect but should do the job if you need a basic 4x4.
