Vehicle Detail

1966 Pontiac GTO Factory Tri-power 3x2bbl. Low Mileage and Pontaic Historical Society documented. This is not you ordinary GTO. This car was born in the factory with the legendary Tri-Power option / 4 speed and has survived somehow all these years without being chopped up and rusted out. I have never found a steel body car that was this solid (I also collect corvettes). It took me 2 years to find this car. I fell in love with the body style of the 1966’s with the stacked front headlights and rear louvered taillights. The profile has that classic coke bottle shape. I sold another vehicle just to buy it and have enjoyed the past few years bringing it up to this extremely correct condition it currently is in. I drive it regularly and it is not a trailer queen. I would describe this car to be a 2+. I believe what is the point of having a super cool car if you can’t drive it. It is also healthy for the engine and seals for the car to be started, brought up to operating temperature and run through the gears in a responsible way. I am interested in selling it as my interests have changed and I am looking for a new project. No trade offers please. I have done a great deal of research in the restoration of this car and I will include a restoration guide and shop manual in the sale of this car to it’s new owner and I hope you can enjoy it as much as I have. I also hope that you are not a shy person, as it garners a lot of attention from people of all ages. The Blue interior and exterior is unusual and really sets this car apart. This is the type of car that would do well at not just any show but Pontiac shows and antique automobile club shows due to its “correctness”. This is the last year on the factory tripower option that ended in mid 1966 and most people agree the most attractive body style. Invoice date (production date) 02-02-1966- Note the proximity to the motor build date and transmission build date. Motor 360 hp 10.75 compression ratio “Julian“or build date code 1-26-1966 (original) WS coded block (tripower) (original) Correct “093” heads 11-4-1965 and 1-22-1966 codes Intake 9782898 Carburetor codes carbs are 1966 correctly coded 7026075 (standard transmission 1966 389 tripower) Transmission 1-29-66 (original) 4 speed 3.55 (39:11) wide ratio Trim tag: Barrier blue exterior (original) Blue interior (orginal) Hardtop Coupe Vin tag and frame stamp match. I have owned other low mileage cars and I am convinced it is correct. Restoration: Exterior Paint –One repaint in its lifetime in 2006. Chromabase GM 1966 Barrier Blue –painted to correct original colors. The car paint looks to be 20 feet deep. I have the original paint can from the repaint for touch ups and the receipt. The paint has a few tiny areas of imperfection but I would have to point them out as they do not show up in photographs well. Body- The car was a rust free southern car that stayed in a carport or covered prior to restoration. I have photographs of the car from before the repaint and it has no evidence of body damage or rust in the fenders. It amazingly simply had oxidation on the paint. The original pinstripe was visible. I have gone through the body with a magnet, checking all body panels for repair and I have never seen a magnet stick so hard to a car everywhere. This is the original sheet metal and no evidence of repairs in the usual door edges or quarter panels – as the original photos reflect. The floor pans are original and the trunk pan is as well. Factory gaps. Glass is original with the exception of the windshield and is in excellent condition. Headlights: Correct T3 high and low beam lamps and work correctly. Wheels- original (not reproduction) Rally 1 Rims with center caps in very good condition and BRAND NEW correct brushed aluminum trim rings. Chrome: New Chrome bumpers/trim/headlight bezels-Chrome and stainless is either in very good condition or has been replaced. New door handles and emblems. Headlights : Correct original T3 headlights. High and low beam work. New correct brushed aluminum trim rings. Interior Dash Everything works. Redone wood grain dash/correct chrome trim/ Correct rebuilt working clock (was an option). No rally pack - I found from talking to experts this was surprisingly actually common. It was not added in the restoration to keep the car “correct” but could be easily added and still appear original if one wishes. Correct original WORKING AM radio. All Gages WORK. Speedometer is accurate. Newer re-chrome of dash knobs. Interior of glove box new. Original keys (2 sets) Correct HURST shifter with NEW woodgrain shift knob- correct to car and on invoice. Newer carpet , seatcovers, door panels, dash pad. Correct chrome pedal trim (for brake, clutch, gas) Newer weather stripping. BRAND New console Newer headliner (original in excellent condition visors-match exactly and are original) Original “non glare” rear view mirror in excellent condition Newer sill plates -very good condition. Courtesy lights work. Dash backlight for night driving works. Trunk: Correct speckled trunk paint with correct spare and jack. Original trunk pan. I have not yet added a trunk mat as it may actually trap moisture and promote rust. Correct trunk sticker. Correct Fisher seatbelts have been restored and have correct GM 1966 tags. Engine Has been rebuilt with about 500-600 miles on it. I have the original receipt. New motor mounts. New correct GM hoses and clamps. Correct rebuilt AC Delco alternator. Rebuilt TriPower carburetor and correct tags with no leaks. The car has the correct factory linkage for a non A/C car. Correct AC Delco gas filter and brackets. Very recently tuned up consisting of NEW correct date coded wires, new points set correctly with dwell meter, new plugs, new distributor, rotor and coil. Car timing has been set to correct 6 degrees off top dead center and runs on 91 octane gas with no knocking or pinging. Oil has just been changed. The compression is excellent on all cylinders and within specifications. The car does not blow any smoke – just exhaust. The fuel and water pump has been replaced and the gas tank has been cleaned and has a “new sock”. New temperature and oil pressure sending units. Correct battery and cables/basket and battery holdown /bolts. This battery is not a plastic cover –it is an exact replica but is a low maintenance and receives a regular charging. Car starts and runs extremely well. Radiator: Correct copper/brass radiator with original tag with no leaks that has just been flushed and refilled with new antifreeze. Suspension: Newer shocks - front and rear and car does not drift or rattle. Correct front and rear springs for correct ride height. Many people put a taller rear spring in the rear but this was something that Pontiac did not change until 1967. Brochures and photos from 1966 show this is the correct ride height. Car has just received an alignment. Brakes: NEW brakes front and rear with NEW correct single reservoir. Brakes are drum front and rear and stop extremely well and perfectly strait with no pulling to the right or left. Drums are correctly painted red. Clutch is newer and pressure plate and release bearings have been restored. The flywheel has been replaced. New U-joints.TIRES ARE BRAND NEW AND BALANCED BFG'S JUST ADDED-SEE PICTURE CLOSE UP OF RIM/TRIM RINGS AND TIRE. THEY ARE ALSO SEEN IN THE PHOTO WITH HOOD OPEN AFTER MOUNTING. If you are seriously interested, I can be reached at 919 475 4246 UP TO 9PM EASTERN TIME and it is OK to leave a message on my number to return your call if I cannot pick up. Good luck bidding and thank you for looking. Howie TERMS OF SALE: The seller can end the car auction at any time. Method of payment-only certified cashiers check. On Dec-12-11 at 10:59:57 PST, seller added the following information: The car is available for inspection anytime and if it does not sell will be made available. The car has never before been available to the public and was purchased from a private collection from a gentleman in Virginia who collected and also restored only 1965-1967 GTO's. I have had an ebayer ask to come and do burnouts and was upset when I replied that they are welcome to come for an inspection but burnouts were for after they purchase it. An inspection is more comprehensive -not a joyride. I believe they may have retracted their bid. To date no-one has been over for an inspection but they are welcome. I am confident the vehicle is as described. This car HAULS !!!! Check my feedback and bid with confidence. On Dec-12-11 at 17:57:30 PST, seller added the following information: JUST TO CLARIFY TO THOSE INTERESTED AS MY LISTING MAY HAVE BEEN CONFUSING...THIS IS AN ORIGINAL ENGINE/TRANNY CAR BORN AS A TRIPOWER AND PHS DOCUMENTED AS SUCH.
