Vehicle Detail

1978 International Scout Traveler RWD Original Single Owner Survivor 92,300 Original Miles 345 V8 Auto I am helping a friend sell this International Scout Traveler, which was owned by his Father who bought it brand new. Original Line Sheet is still on the Glove Box door. It has a Trailer Brake Package, the 345 V8, and since the gentleman was never into 4 wheeling ( This Scout is RWD - 2WD), the engine/tranny/suspension has never been beat on. The Interior is in GREAT condition. Here is what I know of the vehicle as I got it road worthy for the family. . . The Gas Gauge does not work, Factory AC is missing the belt so I do not know if it works, Needs Complete new Exhaust Front to Rear, the only other rust is on the sheet metal around the wheel wells and bottom of doors. I could not see any structural rust anywhere I looked. 345 V8 starts easy and runs great. Kick down function might need adjustment, since although Tranny shifts and downshifts well, it does not drop down when you punch it. It could also be that since the vehicle sat in a garage for the last 6 years, and was only a grocery getter for around 2 years before that. Again, I am simply helping the Son sell it since his Father died several years ago, and they wanted it out of the garage. When I got into it, I replaced a few vacuum hoses and the carb gasket, new correct two stage Thermostat, new battery, fuel filter, new Distributor Cap and Rotor, small adjustments to 2 bbl Holley carb, and it runs great. I drove it to my house about 5 miles away from his house with no issues. Tires are in pretty good shape, it has never been in an accident, and the gentleman who owned it was a stickler for maintenance. It also comes with an original edition of the Factory Service Manual. If I were buying it, (just for common sense) I would simply change all the hoses, belts, and plug wires, change the oil, and flush the tranny and radiator, but other than that, it is good to go, very solid, and reliable vehicle. Even if you were to buy it just to pick parts off it, or take the 345 V8, doors, interior parts, etc... it would still be worth it to grab it, since this vehicle was basically babied for the whole time he owned it since brand new. I would keep it myself, but I am already restoring an old muscle car, and do not have room to keep it. As of 11/5/11 it is parked next to my garage, with a tarp over it. Let me know if you have any questions and I will try and get answers. Vehicle is sold AS-IS. To my knowledge everything works, but I have not tested the cruise control or air conditioner (no belt). I still have to install new wiper blades, front driver side directional signal, and stop lights, but I have purchased the bulbs and wiper blades. As said above, This Scout has sat in a garage for the last 6 years, and has not been touched, until I got it running and did the work above in the beginning of November. I then drove it 5 miles to my house. That drive is far different from driving it across the country. Belts, hoses, plug wires, ETC, all are untested under LONG travel conditions. If you want to drive it away, across the country, that is up to you. I can only certify that which I am certain of. More info on the underside rust condition - I spoke with the son, to get more info on previous usage and storage, because the underside looks so good. He said his father loved this vehicle and NEVER let it be outside the garage at night, especially in winter. Many disagreements in the family about who got the garage spot, and the Scout was non-negotiable. That might be one reason it has so little rust. Again, the vehicle is NOT "rust free", but minimal, in my opinion. I also inspected the rubber donuts body mounts, and found no structural rust or rot, but they are dried, but only minor or no cracking seen. I did see some surface rust underneath where the body panels meet under the trunk and back seat, but no holes or rust through. Around the leaf springs a saw a little bit of flake rust, but nothing more. I inspected more of that rust around the rear wheel well, shown in pics, and it is flaking to various degrees of depth. it is shown in pics. Hopefully a true Scout Lover gets this vehicle, because Original Owner, True Survivor Scouts in this good of shape are just not often seen. Thanks for looking... GOOD LUCK SCOUT LOVERS !!! On Nov-24-11 at 07:20:07 PST, seller added the following information: From the Line Set Ticket on the Glove Box Door >>> I-407 - 3 speed Trans, 3.07 RA28 Rear Axle, Custom Interior Trim Pckg., Deluxe Exterior Trim Pckg., Full Width Fold Rear Seat, Dual Exh., Trailer Towing Pckg. 345 V8 I believe I listed all other features... I also mentioned in the listing that I had to install wiper blades, front directional and rear stop bulbs - ALL Done, and confirmed Operational... cd On Nov-25-11 at 19:24:19 PST, seller added the following information: FYI - I've been starting / running the Scout every few days to keep oil, gas, fluids, etc... flowing, and it starts great, but I noticed that once it is completely warmed up, it idles down, runs fine for a little while, and then drops down to a "second" idle speed, and runs a little rough. When I give it some gas, it runs great again. Might be something easy for a Scout / 345 person... All I know is my pre-smog 65 Mopar... Just wanted to let you know.... cd On Nov-26-11 at 09:50:46 PST, seller added the following information: Reserve Lowered ! Good Luck Bidding ! cd
