Vehicle Detail
This is a 1969 Lotus Elan+2 coupe. Although it is a project car it is currently running and driving and I have been driving it regularly for the last year or so. Mechanically it is in pretty nice condition. It starts easy and runs nice. It currently has S.U. carbs installed which I prefer over the Strombergs it came with but the original Strombergs are also included. I do not have air cleaners for it. It had a new head gasket installed about 6 months ago. The engine has good oil pressure and pulls hard with a terrific sporty sounding exhaust tone. The gearbox and clutch also work great with no crunching or problems at all and a nice tight feeling shifter. The four wheel disc brakes work great and the handbrake also works. The steering and suspension are brilliant. The cooling system all works great and it has a mechanical fan and an electric fan with automatic thermostatic switch. The glass fibre body is in good condition. It has some of the usual Lotus stress cracks (see pictures). There is a small piece broken off at the very bottom left front wheel arch almost underneath the car. The car was originally yellow but is currently a very dark blue, almost black. The paint is pretty rough with lots of scratches and blemishes. The Chassis is in good condition with no major rust problems. The chrome is all in pretty nice condition with some minor pitting and scratches. The Interior is in fair condition. The front seats are both very nice, The drivers seat has a couple very tiny holes near where the bottom cushion meets the back. The back seats are excellent. The door panels are both nice. The headliner is decent but has a few holes poked in it near the front. The center console is excellent. The wood dash is decent with some cracks in the finish, The top dash pad has a very large crack right in the middle. All the instruments work but the fuel gauge and tach are not very accurate. The Tach reads too low and the fuel gauge only goes a little above half when the tank is full although it does go down incrementally as the fuel is used and it also has a low fuel light that does work. The heat and defrost do work but not great. The carpets are decent. The original steering wheel is missing its center cap and has some splits around its rim. The glass is all in very good condition. Most of the electrics are working. It has a brand new battery. The wipers work on one speed. The power windows both go up and down but extremely slowly. Most of the lights work and the vacuum operated pop up headlights go up and down great. The Interior lights even come on when you open the door! The charging system is working. The Tyres are in great condition and not very old. It does not come with a spare but it does have the original jack and the special lug wrench to remove the large center knock off that holds each wheel on. It has a clear Title. Overall this car is far from perfect and is a bit of a project but is also quite drivable as is and would make an excellent restoration candidate or just smartened up a bit with a fresh paint job. It's a blast to drive and one can instantly feel the Lotus magic at work, I honestly hate to part with it but simply have too many cars and not enough space (or money). I've done my best to describe it honestly but I highly encourage a personal inspection if possible. The Elan can be viewed by appointment in Granite Falls, WA (not far from Seattle). I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. Buyer is responsible for shipping costs and arrangements if needed. I will help in any way possible. Please feel free to ask any questions. Be sure to watch the video of this car in action, taken the day before the listing started: On Nov-26-11 at 13:46:03 PST, seller added the following information: I've had lots or requests for pictures of the underside. I don't have a lift at home so I did the next best thing and jacked it up and took these photos today. As you can see there is some surface rust of course but overall it's very solid underneath. No signs of rot or damage. This is a nice solid car and I don't think anyone would be disappointed with it.
