The MGA began production in 1955. The styling and mechanics were different from previous MG models. The public had been given hints of its new design during the 1951 Le-Mans 24 hour endurance race. The car was driven by George Phillips and was actually a TD Midget with body modifications.
The XPAG engine that had power many previous MG's was replaced by a new power-plant. This 1489 cc four-cylinder, B-series engine provided between 68 and 72 horsepower.
To create enthusiasm for the cars prior to release, three aluminum bodied prototypes were created and dubbed EX182. They were entered into the Le Mans race where they finished fifth and sixth in their class. This epic achievement gave the MGA racing credibility and mechanical reliability.
The styling of the car was undeniably elegant. Its aerodynamic design and two-seat open-body was stylish and sporty. The vehicle sat very low to the ground providing an excellent center of gravity. This improved the handling and cornering ability. The chassis was a modified TD Midget unit with widely spaced side rails allowing for a low-seating position.
1959 was a transition year for the MG by late year the company had turned to the MGA 1600’s for production. This vehicle was built in early ’59 and is a 1500cc MGA 4, one of the last of its breed and are extremely collectible among MG enthusiasts. This vehicle has undergone a complete frame-off restoration, done to the highest standards. Thousands have been invested and the vehicle is like new inside an out. The vehicle is equipped with its original 1500cc engine and 4 speed gearbox. The exterior is highly detailed and finished in Old English white with matching Black interior. The vehicle sits on a set of original stock wheels.
The vehicle was found in a garage here in Southern California and is a truly original car. Most all its components were still with the car and each piece was painstaking restored and fitted back on the vehicle. We have several photos of the restoration, and as original photos showing the vehicle is a rust free example, some surface rust was uncovered but nothing rusted through or in need of remanufacturing or any modifications what so ever. You can see in the photos an original black California plate and several historical tags of various events were found in the glove box. The car is truly a unique find and was fully restored to immaculate condition. There are no issues with the vehicle, everything works as it should and its condition in simply spectacular. You will not find a finer example on the market. If you are looking for an MGA Roadster this vehicle should not be overlooked, rarely do people find an English car in solid rust free condition and perform a Concours restoration to these standards. The vehicle is virtually flawless and will give its next new owner many years of reliable enjoyment.
