Vehicle Detail

This is a 1970 Toronado Deluxe. I owned a new GT model in 1970 of the same color and was trying to recapture my youth with this one. A restoration project was partially completed until I lost interest. The car was put into storage in Tucson 3 years ago where it has been since. I recently replaced the battery and fuel and it started up on first try. I drove it a few miles without incident and it ran smoothly. I believe the car is mechanically sound. The interior was almost completed and at the time it was put into storage the air conditioner was working. A new compressor was installed, but probably needs to be recharged. The air conditioner is a "comfortron" and for some reason does not automatically switch from A/C to heat. Parts have been replaced, but I have not found a mechanic who really understands the system. The cruise control was worked on and new parts installed, but is still not working, again the technology is old and modern mechanics are not familliar with it. The radio works, but has static when the knobs are touched. The steering wheel was restored but the rim blow is not working. The seats were recovered 4 years ago and are in new condition. The lights all work, but the turn signal needs some adjustment. The clock looks brand new, but does not work. All of the in dash lights were replaced during the restoration and should last a while. All of the power window motors work but the left rear is slow. The 6 way power seat works but some adjustments are needed. The exterior needs paint and some minor body work. There is very little surface rust. There is one area of the drivers door that looks like it may have a bondo repair that was done before I purchased it. All lights including the cornering lamps work. The vinyl top is in good condition, but may look better with some paint. It is just not as white as it should be, but there are no rips or repairs. When I purchased the car the windshield did not have the imbedded radio antenna and an external antenna had been placed on the right front fender. I found a new windshield with the antenna and replaced it and it works well. However when I removed the external antenna there is a 1 inch hole that now needs to be filled. There is a new emerald green carpet which contrasts beautifully with the white vinyl seats. Over $2000 was spent on the upholstery along with $800 on the steering wheel restoration. Mechanically is seems very sound but a tune up would be useful as well as a fuel flush before driving it long distance. The car is available for viewing in Tucson, Arizona by appointment. A $500 deposit is required within 48 hours of auction close and the balance is due within seven days. You can view more pictures of the vehicle here: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v106/rockhound34/toronado/ This car is being sold AS-IS with no warranty expressed or implied. Please ask any questions before purchasing this vehicle. I have tried to list as much information as possible but I am sure there are some that may be unanswered. This car is an excellent candidate for a full restoration with minimal investment. The interior needs very little and the body is pretty sound as it stands.
