Vehicle Detail
1972 ALFA ROMEO GTV 2000 This 1972 Alfa Romeo GTV has been a California car since new. It has spent most of it’s time in the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas. The car has had four owners from new and has covered only 81,000 original miles in 39 years. Included with the car is the original owner’s manual and various service/repair receipts that go back to 1973. This car is a great candidate for an easy refresh or address a couple mechanical issues and drive it as it is. I have been using this car on the weekends and have taken a couple road trips with it. The car is a blast to drive and the motor is one of the strongest I’ve driven. EXTERIOR The car was repainted in the mid 90’s in its original silver color. The paint is now about 15 years old and is starting to crack and fade in a few areas probably due to bad prep work. The body is in overall good, sound condition. There are a few dents and scratches as well. The panel fit is good and there are no major signs of any major accidents. The front end looks to have been tapped at some point (parking lot?). The only tell tale are two non factory weld spots on the fenders. Not panels were replaced and everything is straight as new. The floor pans are good. There are a couple small spots around the area where the rubber drain plugs go which is common on these cars. The rockers are in overall good condition as well. There are a couple small spots on the front area of the driver’s side. The driver rocker panel also has a dent, not sure how that got there. At some point someone put 14x6 five star wheels from a later Bosch injected Spider. It has older Yokohama AVS Intermediate tires mounted on the wheels. INTERIOR The interior of the car is mostly original. The only thing that appears to have been redone are the front seats. The back seat has the usual cracking near the top from sun penetrating through the rear window, and the headliner has a couple tears. The dash has a couple cracks, but is not warped. The gauge cluster is one of the best I’ve seen in any GTV. All the faces and outer casing are not faded. Door and side panels are the original “heat stitched” panels. Heater works great. I installed a new heater valve last week. The steering wheel is also in very good condition with no splitting. The radio is a nice unit but is not currently wired. The trunk area is nice and intact. It still has all of the original rubber matting one the sides and carpet over the fuel tank/tire well. The spare tire well is in great condition. Original steel wheel spare and the jack are still in place with their correct hold down hardware. I recently had the gas tank cleaned out and repainted and changed the filter and hoses when reinstalling the tank. MECHANICALS The motor on this car is one of the best driving motors I’ve ever had in any of my Alfa’s. The previous owner said he did a major service not that long before I purchased it. It pulls great at all speeds water temperature/oil pressure are good. It does leak some oil around the SPICA pump area which is typical for these cars. The gearbox and driveshaft are the only areas I know that need some attention. The transmission shifts great in all gears except the typical second gear. When cold it grinds and when it’s warmed up, it’s not bad if you wait a second before putting into gear. This should be addressed while it’s just a syncro issue. The driveshaft needs a new center support and bearing. The limited slip differential works fine. The suspension was slightly upgraded with adjustable upper control arms, and Koni shocks by the previous owner. Last week, I changed out the caster bushings which were worn out. Car stops fine. The brake system was upgrade with steel brake lines. PAYMENT A 10% nonrefundable deposit is due no later than 24 hours after the auction ends.
