Vehicle Detail
Up for NO RESERVE auction is my 1975 Mercedes-Benz 450SL roadster convertible. We are selling the car because we are moving in about a month or so. When I purchased the car(about 4 years ago) it did run and drive but there was a squeak coming out from under the hood, I assumed it was just a belt or tension pulley, come to find out that the left cam was not getting much oil and the cam was rubbing on the cam bearings. This was apparently due to the oil delivery tube being clogged up. Without knowing this and assuming the worst I purchased a motor from a 450sl that was involved in a rear end collision. The Mercedes that I bought the replacement motor form had just about the exact amount of miles as mine does. That motor will be included with the sale of this car. Although I have been assured that the engine does run I I HAVE NEVER FIRED IT UP TO VERIFY. The distributor and cam covers that are not shown in the pictures are also included in the auction. The rust that can be seen in a few of the pictures appears to only be surface rust, and is not nearly as bad as it look in the pictures, and can be sanded down. The car's interior is not bad, the carpet is in good shape. The seats are in great shape and so is the hard top's liner, as can bee seen in the pictures. The blue soft top that is included in the auction was in pristine condition the last time I saw it (about 4 years ago), and has never seen sunlight since, so I'd imagine its still in as great shape as it was when I first saw it. It literary looked brand new. The transmission is absolutely spotless. There is no oil on it whatsoever. It looks like new. I am fairly certain that the existing original motor can be repaired fairly easily without having to be swapped out. This car is definitely a project, but for the right Benz enthusiast it could be a very fun project. A MAACO representative told me that the car can be stripped bare to the metal for $765 and repainted with their long warrantied signature paint job for $1400. I would be willing to assist in transport the car to our local shipping yard but the buyer is responsible for shipping charges. This IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION so the highest bidder takes the car so please, if you need more info on it before you bid, call or text me; I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have to the capacity that I am able. George (208) 316-4798. Thanks for looking at this auction and may God bless you.
