The only difference between the 300SL and the 500SL is the drivetran and an additional 10 MPG with the 300SL. The inline 6 is also easier to maintain and less expensive to repair. This car comes with a removable aluminum hardtop which in like new condition. The soft top was just replaced and is brand new. Safety was a major design factor in these convertibles. The rollover bar was designed to flip into position between the seats when needed. Made of foam-covered steel tubing, the bar lay flush with the rear tonneau cover, ready to deploy within 0.3 second if sensors detected an impending rollover incident. The bar can be raised and lowered via a dashboard button, if desired. The car is also equipted with anti lock brakes. Power Convertible Top works perfectly - turn the key to ``on`` and press the console button. The side windows lower, the top lifts from the fasteners in the windshield, the plastic rear window separates from the top, the rear compartment lid raises, the rear plastic window folds into the compartment, the softtop folds into the compartment, the plastic compartment lid lowers to cover the hardware and software and secures itself.
