The description you are about to read is my honest opinion of this vehicle based on my experience driving this car and my observations about it. While I strive for complete accuracy in my descriptions, you are buying a used vehicle. I can guarantee nothing. I am not a mechanic. I do not have the equippment and training to offer a professional mechanical inspection. Each bidder is encouraged to see this vehicle in person before placing their bid. Up for a NO RESERVE auction today is a vehicle that is a little different than what I typically sell...but I couldn't turn it down. I will preface this description by stating the following: In addition to not being a mechanic, I am not an expert on classic cars. This car was 18 years old when I was born. I don't know how to decode the VIN, I don't know what should and shouldn't be when it comes to these cars. I can just tell you what I see. I am completely honest...but feel free to ask specific questions and I will do my best to answer them. I don't want to sell this car to an "expert" who is going to come and pick it apart. Please come see it BEFORE bidding if you're picky. I took about 50 photos to help compensate for my lack of knowledge. I would rate the exterior condition of this Corvair to be in AVERAGE condition. This car looks great but you can see several imperfections up close. It appears to have been repainted some time ago. There are a few places you can see runs in the paint up close. I am told by the previous owner that it's single stage paint and can be sanded smooth. This car has sat in the same garage for the last decade. The owner was moving out of state and couldn't take it along. Both doors, the boot and bonnet open easily and close with a nice, solid thunk. The windshield has recently been replaced. The door vent glass is cracked on both doors. All four roll down windows are in good condition. The chrome is in fair condition all around, showing minor pitting in a few places but nothing horrible. All of the lenses appear to be in tact. The tires are in decent condition for their age. The Monza hub caps look great. I would rate the interior of this Corvair as AVERAGE. The door panels are in tact. The carpets could use cleaned but are not worn through. The front seats have been recovered and look/fold great. The rear seat appears to be original. It is different in color from the front seat and the stitching is coming apart at places. The dash is in good condition. All of the gauges and controls are working properly. The radio is original and not working. Speakers have been put in the fresh air vents. The glove box opens easily. This car comes with three keys, including one original key. The headliner is in decent condition. The front trunk is dirty and looks to be in original condition. There are several spare and replacement parts to go with the car up front. The engine compartment also appears to be original. There are spots of rust here and there but nothing too bad considering the age of the car. Mechanically, I'm gonna say this Corvair is in pretty good condition. Again, I know nothing about these cars so bear with me. The flat six cylinder engine starts easily and runs quietly. It doesn't smoke or appear to use any oil. I've driven this car about 20 miles. It actually drives really well. The suspension is tight and quiet. The steering feels pretty good (for a 50 y/o car). The brakes work well, I believe. This is the first car I have driven without power brakes...so the brakes are very different than I am used to. This Corvair is equipped with the two speed powerglide transmission which shifts well. I had this car out on the interstate and she did 65-70mph without any trouble. The parking brake works properly. I know nothing about carburetors...so this thing is a mystery to me. When it's warmed up, it wants to shut off when you come to a stop...but always starts right back up. I am sure it is a combination of old gas, sitting for a decade, ect. I will be tinkering with it to try and get it running better, but assume that you'll have to do some tinkering to get it right. This car was PA titled in 1991, and owned by the person I purchased it from since 2001. The title reads 63,243 miles and is stated as actual miles. The odometer now reads around 75,000 +/- miles and will be sold as actual, original miles. All spare parts I have will be sold with the car. There is a box or two in the trunk as well as two chrome rocker panels.
