One of the most outstanding features of this classic 4X4 is that it has the last Racing Head Service engine ever built. I know because I worked there until they closed in 1996. This company was legendary for it’s high quality, balanced & blueprinted engines and this 383 Small Block Chevy is the last RHS engine ever produced. It has the famous RHS chrome valve covers that gear heads the world over recognize as a mark of performance. This engine has a 3.75” stoke crank with 5.7 rods. The pistons are a TRW Hypereutectic alloy dish design, which provides more power than a flat-top piston. The Hypereutectic alloy allows tighter clearance than forged pistons, while still being much stronger than cast ones. The compression ratio is 9.5:1 and the engine is tuned to run premium pump gasoline. RHS engines are balanced to within +/- one gram. This was not our only vehicle so the engine has approximately 25,000-30,000 miles on it. It has ported Chevy heads with 1.94”/1.55” stainless steel valves that are advantageous for low end torque for 4X4s. Spark is provided by the legendary Performance Distributors DUI race HEI ignition and matching camo sleeved LiveWires. This ignition was custom curved and blueprinted specifically for this vehicle and allows a .055” plug gap on the Autolite Platinum spark plugs. Fuel and air are delivered by an Edelbrock 850 CFM Quadrajet carb and Performer RPM aluminum intake. To ensure only clean air gets to the engine, it has a K&N washable, reusable high flow air cleaner that also uses a flow-through top. The cam is a Lunati performance hydraulic flat tappet with 218 duration @ .050 and .454” lift. Rocker arms are COMP Cams Magnum Roller Tip rockers; 3/8" stud, 1.52 ratio and COMP valvetrain. This gives it a nice, slightly choppy, idol but still plenty of vacuum for the power brakes and low end torque. It’s got a lot of power so the brakes are important! They are new, disc in the front and oversize drums in the back. Engine functions are monitored with Auto Meter Pro-Comp, liquid filled race 2 5/8” gauges and a 5” Pro-Comp tachometer.The exhaust system starts with Headman headers with Walker Dynomax mufflers and ends with custom dual exhausts. Dynomax mufflers have a low throaty growl, rather than a popping, overly loud, exhaust sound that some truck systems have. The GM Turbo 350 auto transmission has been performance built, shifts firm and has low miles. It has a trans cooler large enough for a motor home. Power steering steers the BF Goodrich AT 31 X 12.50s. It has a new radiator and water pump and billet aluminum pulleys.The ‘74 K5 4X4 came with a factory positive traction 10 Bolt differential in the front. The rear end has been upgraded with a Powertrax Lock Right positive traction unit in a Chevy 12 bolt heavy-duty rear end. Both differentials have new parts and 4.11 gears and carriers. Two spare tires are included, mounted on chrome steel aftermarket rims. Two spares are needed because the front wheels are six lug and the heavy-duty 12 bolt is five lug. Speaking of wheels, check out the Centerline Hellcat 15X10” polished aluminum wheels with BF Goodrich 31 X 12.50" All Terrain tires. It can operate as a 2 or 4 wheel drive with the lockout hubs. The Grant leather steering wheel has the removable steering wheel anti-theft kit added. One major upgrade has been the addition of new poly- graphite body bushings. Suspension has been upgraded with poly-graphite Rancho products and off road shocks and has new brakes. It has a Smittybuilt bolt in cage, not welded to frame and not intended to be a roll cage, but does add structural strength. The cage also serves as frame for the custom made half, or “bikini” top. This top was made just for this Blazer from heavy-duty tonneau cover materiel and is a very cool, a truly one of a kind bonus feature. It comes off in seconds and re-installs in minutes. It has an aftermarket rubber floor covering and insulation and heavy-duty aftermarket rubber floor mats. Included is a high end Kenwood CD/Receiver with remote and marine speakers made for boating mounted to the rear wheel wells as well as custom door speakers. Step bars are a must on these big 4X4s and this one has aftermarket steel, black powder coated, frame mounted, ones. The interior has not yet been a priority, however, in addition to the factory Chevy console, I’ve added a very nice aftermarket contractor’s console. I have the original fiberglass hard top and hardware and it's been stored under a tarp when not in use. The Blazer has been garage stored since I've owned it. Like anything this old, it still needs a thing or two, like window regulators on the side windows. The rear window regulator is a new GM one. The heater (no AC) blower motor seems to have a short, but it does have a new heater core. There is some rust, mainly around the wheel area as shown in the pics, but still one of the best preserved examples of a Blazer like this anywhere. There’s nothing on this classic 37 year old vehicle to make it unreliable to start and drive any time you’re ready. Good luck on your bidding!
