Vehicle Detail
This is the second go-around listing for this truck. From the last time I have learned some thing which will help the buyers. We have reduced the "Buy Now" from $8,500 to $8,000 and we are not accepting "Best Offer" below $7,500 This is a solid and straight 1949 Ford F1 ½ ton pickup. It has never seen salt. History: Built in St. Paul, MN and sold to a farmer in North Dakota. Upon his death, we guess around 1970, my uncle purchased the truck at a farm auction. They stored the truck inside and used in mainly in local parades until 2004, when it was sold to me. We are the third owners. We stored it indoors as well. Maintenance History: During the time my uncle had the truck, he painted it red, it was originally blue. It was painted sometime in the mid 80’s I would guess. The paint codes are inside the glove box cover. They also added an electric fuel pump to overcome vapor lock. The truck received regular maintenance, oil changes, oil filters, and grease. Since we got the truck, I put a new set of tires on the truck, three years ago. Replaced a leaking left side rear wheel cylinder, turned the rear drums, replace the rear brake shoes, and replaced a leaking master cylinder. I replaced the single tail light with two new tail lights, added turn signals, and rewired all the running lights. I put a new muffler and a short down and out directed tail pipe on the truck as well. Engines built in this era, the forties and fifties, used oil right out of the gate and got worse as they got older. This engine is no exception. It now uses or leaks about 1 qt. every 400 miles. The valve tappets could use some adjustment (they are a little noisy), but the truck starts and runs fine and never fouls the plugs. This was a farm truck, with a 4.25 rear gear ratio, and runs best at about 50 miles an hour. It is not a freeway cruiser. The truck looks great from 25 feet, but in fact the paint has many chips, scratches, scrapes, and thin spots. The glass front and back is good, the sides, not so good, and the rubber around the wings needs to be replaced, and the window channels need repair as well. The windows do roll up and down freely. The head liner is there, but only in fair condition. There is a heater, but I don’t think it works. The seat has been recovered, some time while my uncle owned the truck. The fuel gage does not work as the tank needs a new sending unit. All the rest of the gages work and the truck does not run hot and holds good oil pressure. The truck is an original survivor, when you look under it, or under the floor mats, all you will see is slight surface rust, nothing is missing. Every gusset, every bracket, and all the inner panels are there and complete. I don’t think you could find a more straight and complete 49 F1 any where. The 48 and 49 F1’s had a light steel bed liner, backed up by oak flooring under the steel floor. The wood looks ok from the bottom, but we cannot determine the condition in of the wood in total because it is covered. However, when you walk around the box, I do not feel any soft spots. Sold as is as shown with no warrenty, either expressed or implied. If you want to discuss this truck, call me at (815) 985-2366
