Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1992 BMW 318i Convertible. The top and interior are black. The outside is fire engine red. It is a manual transmission. The car has 114,300 miles on it. It’s a 4 cylinder, 1.8 liter, two door car and gets incredible gas mileage (typically I can get around 30 mpg). I am the third owner and have owned the car since 2001. This car is available as a local pick-up only. I will deliver it if you have coordinated delivery with me before bidding and we can agree on a delivery fee. My fee will be reasonable and cover the cost of gas to the location and return. I do not plan to make money off of delivering the car. The car has been my primary or secondary means of transportation for the duration of my ownership. I have kept it in the garage for at least 95% of the time I owned it, including when at work. Mechanically, the car is sound and has no problems. The major issue is that the roof needs to be replaced. If you were to store it in the garage and not leave it out in the rain, then you could forgo replacing the top. It drives just fine with the top on, and the top goes down very easily. If you get caught in a heavy rain, however, the top will begin to leak. Here are the other issues I know of with the car: There are some small dents on the trunk. You have to look at the right angle to even see them, but they are there. They are not really noticeable. The radio and floor mats are not original. I have the original radio and it is included with the sale. The cigarette tray in the back is cracked. It can be replaced or repaired. There is no sliding cup holder for the front. The driver window sticks slightly when rolling down. It will still go down on its own, but goes slowly about halfway down. There is no problem going up. There is a small tear in the driver seat side (shown in the photo). The very front of the car has a small plastic piece that fits to the underside. It fell off recently and needs to be clipped in again. I don’t have the clips, but I have the plastic piece. The engine temperature gauge will bounce around. I have had it looked at and it is not an engine problem, but a problem with the guage. The clock inside the car does not work. Here is what I know of the car’s other items of interest: The engine, clutch, steering, etc are all in excellent shape. I had it into the shop last week and had a light bulb and all of the belts replaced. Everything else checked out fine. The tires were all replaced about 4,000 miles ago. There was a blow out on the highway, and all four tires got tossed for new ones. The AC and heat run perfectly. The electronic locks were replaced about 3 months ago by a BMW specialist. They all work perfectly. All windows will roll down just fine with the exception of the driver’s side problem noted above. There are no problems with the starter and the battery was replaced at the same time as the locks. There is no rot on the inside. The leather seats all look very good. The carpets could probably use a good cleaning, but there are no major stains or other problems. The car handles very well and drives great. My wife and I had it out in the Hudson Valley a couple of weeks ago with the top down and it ran beautifully. It was made for sunny days and driving around turns up and down mountains. There is no rust on the body. It was really never driven in the winter. There are a couple of small trouble spots inside the wheel wells, but nothing remotely major or that takes away from the beauty of the car. The car has a 6 disk CD player in the trunk that is controlled via a remote near the driver. In the dash is a mini-disk player, probably the only one still inside a car in the US! I still have the original cassette player and radio as well. The speakers blew about 5 years ago and were replaced. The clutch works great. I keep it maintained as well as I can. I have probably spent too much on it already. Being in NY now, I don’t have a good place to store it cheaply all winter, so I’m getting rid of her. I have loved having this car. Its incredibly stylish and a blast to drive. Below are more specifics on the car. I’m really sad to see it go, but I’m sure there is a BMW enthusiast out there that will love it for many more years. I can provide a carfax report on the car and will answer any questions to the best of my ability. I also have all of the maintenance records since I have owned it, a Haynes manual and a clear title. There is no reserve on the car. Good luck bidding! Thanks!
