Vehicle Detail

Hello and thank you for looking at my auction. My name is Joe and I sell cars differently than most dealers. Buying your next vehicle through one of my NO RESERVE auctions could save you thousands over what a retail dealer might ask for a similar vehicle. Before listing a vehicle on eBay, I personally road test each one so I can tell you first hand how it looks, runs and drives. I then write a detailed description of the car so you feel as close to seeing and driving it youself as possible. The description you are about to read is my honest opinion of this vehicle based on the findings of my road test. The information contained within this description is true to the best of my knowledge and ability but cannot be guaranteed as I am not a mechanic. Pre-bid inspections are welcomed and encouraged whenever possible. Vehicles are shown by appointment at my York, PA storage facility. Any serious buyer is encouraged to request a private showing. An administrative fee of $149 will be added to the final bid of each auction. All vehicles are sold "as-is". Most vehicles I sell are trades from local dealerships and have not been serviced or reconditioned prior to sale. Please read the entire description and review all photos carefully before bidding or asking questions. Everything I know about this car is disclosed in the following paragraphs... Up for a NO RESERVE auction is a very nice 1998 Mercedes-Benz S 500 sedan. The W140 Mercedes is one of my all time favorite vehicles. Having owned several, I feel they are one of the best cars on the road...period. The W140 also represents the last period when a Mercedes was a Mercedes, not a Chrysler. These just feel different than the newer ones...if you've driven both, you know what I mean. I would rate the exterior condition of this Mercedes as AVERAGE for the year and miles. As you can see, this is a good looking car. The paint on the hood is a little faded, but otherwise has an excellent shine all around. There are no noteworthy scratches or dents. The grill has been replaced with a blacked out aftermarket grill with the large star in the center. Original equippment grills can be found on ebay and locally should you choose to put it back to original. The windows have been professionally tinted. This car is equipped with rare factory chrome wheels which look great against the black paint and dark windows. The chrome finish on the wheels is not perfect but looks great. This car turns heads everywhere I drive it. It is also equipped with FACTORY XENON LIGHTS which is not common. The very top of the antenna is broken but it does raise and lower. Please review all the photos carefully. I would rate the interior of this Mercedes as AVERAGE. The door panels are all clean and in tact. The wood trim looks very good and shows minimal cracking. The carpets are clean and full looking throughout. The headliner is clean and in tact. With the exception of a small hole in the drivers seat cushion, the leather appointed seats are in excellent condition throughout. Both front seats are power operated and work properly. All four seats are heated. The power windows, seats, sunroof, mirrors (adjust and fold) and steering wheel work as they should. The stereo system is the original premium system with radio and cassette up front and CD changer in the trunk. The magazine is missing to the changer. The stereo system sounds great. This system is known for bad volume knobs but this one works perfectly. There is some wear and tear on the interior...the arm rest shows some wear, the cover to the first aid kit and center brake light are missing and the left rear vahity mirror does not stay up due to a broken plastic clip. The climate control system is working properly and the air conditioner blows ice cold air. Mechanically, this Mercedes appears to be in good running condition. The legendary 5.0L engine starts right up and runs smoothly. I saw no smoke or leaks from this engine. I have owned this car for almost three months and have put several hundred miles on it. The engine makes great power. During my time behind the wheel, this Mercedes displayed good road manners. Besides an airbag light, there are no warning lights on. I have just had the front brakes replaced so the car stops like it should. The steering is responsive and tight as it should be. Out on the highway, she cruises like a big body Benz should. There is no vibration or pulling. The only thing I think this car could use mechanically would be a new pair of rear shocks (maybe), or bushings. The car rides smooth and level but you can hear a light thump in the back when you go over bumps around town. The five speed automatic transmission engages smoothly and shifts properly. The vacuum system is working properly (which is hard to find). All four doors AND the trunk close properly. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING PARAGRAPH CAREFULLY... I often hesitate to sell higher end used vehicles through ebay. As a buyer, there are a few things one should understand about a vehicle like this. In spite of the fact that this car is now worth about the same as a used Nissan, you will still have to maintain a $100,000 car. These cars require frequent service by specially qualified technicians who are experienced with Mercedes-Benz cars. This is rarely cheap. If you are asking yourself whether or not you can afford to maintain a car like this...you probably can't. Do yourself a favor and buy a Japanese car. This is a used car. Buyers should expect it to have wear and tear associated with a car of similar age and miles in addition to any specific items mentioned. It is also safe to assume that this car will be due for service. With proper expectations, the high bidder should be very happy with this car. I don't want to sound like I am talking this car down...rather, I want to make it clear that you are bidding on a used car that has been driven...not an exotic sports car. I am happy to answer any questions about the car. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding.
