Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a California based 1978 Fiat Spider 124 Sport convertible. 4 Cylinder, 1.8 Liter dual overhead cam engine. Car was purchased in March 2005 and has been garaged when parked. This car has been a very reliable daily driver and a project to restore and has been completely reliable. Restorations and work done on the car include the following plus more: rebuilt engine with new Lancia head, rebuilt Weber carburetor, electronic ignition, intake manifold, exhaust manifold, cam boxes, aluminum cam gears, all seals, valve adjustment and tuning, new valve and valve seats, and electronic ignition. Timing belt was changed at 36,848 miles. New timing belt tensioner bearing, intake manifold gasket, exhaust manifold gasket, head gasket, tensioner spring and hardware, new spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, new coolant. Replaced rear axle bearing seals, new speedometer cable, new poly sway bar bushings, replace differentional pinion seals, replace axle seals-left and right. Pretty much everything was rebuilt or replaced except for the pistons which were fine. All new front end, including: bushing, replaced upper and lower control arms, upper and lower ball joints and control arm bushings, all new clutch, new clutch pedal, new cable. An extra clutch cable is included. New reverse light switch, new tie rod ends, center link and idler arm. Synthetic fluids in transmission and differential. 5 Speed transmission shifts easily, as it should, with no noise or other issues. Differential has a few drips once in a while, which is normal for these cars. Other than that it does not leak or smoke. No Air Conditioning model. New steering box and new old stock under-hood insulation (RARE!) New thermostat. Glass pack muffler gives it a nice low rumble, and new hi-flow catalytic converter. Many new parts, more than I can list. I have all receipts to show work performed. Car has never overheated, electric fan will come on in traffic and it runs cool. I've driven it from L.A. to both San Diego and Santa Barbara with no problems on either trip. This car runs strong because so much has been replaced and perfected. All work was done by a mechanic who knows how to fix & what's right for these cars. No hack jobs or shortcuts were ever done while I've owned this. Body and paint is very nice and clean, with a few dings. Nothing major. Interior improvements: New wiper motor, VDO oil gauge (have original, goes with sale), new gauge lights, clock has new clear glass and is very accurate, new visors, shift knob, shift bushings, new upper and lower boot, heater core was cleaned and pressure tested with new valve and hoses. Heater blows hot and strong. This car has no rust or rot, as I inspected under the carpet and seats and found nothing. The only surface rust was under the passenger side door scuff plate and under the battery, which was treated by a professional body shop. Previous owner installed new carpet, reupholstered seats door panels and arm rest chrome trim, new top with clear rear window and bow covers. New cigarette lighter and no cracks on dash or center console. Included is Kenwood detachable faceplate stereo which is sirius satellite compatible with pioneer multi-CD changer both with a remote. (Needs to be installed) Also has Viper alarm w/2 key fobs (disconnected now, re-engage to use) I have owners manual for that. Trunk includes: complete original toolbox, spare tire, jack, jack handle, newer battery Car runs smoothly at highway speeds. All lights and signals work fine. Window washer fluid sprayer isn't currently working. Electric motor on washer bag is not working. Unfortunately I do not have the door keys. Ignition and trunk key only. Pretty much everything else on this car works. Top is clean and has no rips or tears and doesn't leak. Additional cool parts: Original Cromodora magnesium racing wheels purchased from a collector in Germany which are in excellent shape with no curb rash and are from either the 60's or 70's (have paperwork), new old stock tonneau cover (RARE!) which I had the zipper reinforced. Also, top boot cover with no rips or issues. Original owners manual, too. 2 new oil filters and a lower skid plate which I took off but is included. Other miscellaneous stuff goes with car. The reason for sale is I have a new car & no more garage space & I don't want to park this on the street. link to more pictures: CLICK HERE Serious bidders only, please. No warrantee is implied or expressed. A $500 non-refundable down-payment is due 24 hours after end of auction. NO Personal checks. All funds will clear before car is released, which can take a few days. To keep the auction fair, I won't reveal the reserve price. You are bidding to win, not to come see if you like it. They are much light than steel & are original which is another reason they are rare. The rearview mirror doesn't rattle around like most of them for these cars & the night vison works in it. I put in an original steel mirror, not plastic like most that are in the Spiders. I always bought nice original parts for this fabulous Fiat & I will be at a loss when sold but it'll be great for the new owner.
