Vehicle Detail
This Cadillac Cimarron is being relisted due to a non paying bidder (notrofeo of Evansville, IN) who talked with me for an hour on the phone, then disappeared into thin air...wouldn't answer calls or emails. Let's try this again... Hello and thank you for looking at my auction. My name is Joe and I sell wholesale vehicles directly to the public. Buying your next vehicle through one of my NO RESERVE auctions could save you thousands over what a retail dealership might ask for a similar vehicle. Before listing a vehicle on eBay, I personally road test each one so I can tell you first hand how it looks, runs and drives. The description you are about to read is my honest opinion of this vehicle based on the findings of my road test. The information contained within this description is true to the best of my knowledge and ability but cannot be guaranteed as I am not a mechanic. Pre-bid inspections are welcomed and encouraged whenever possible. All vehicles are shown by appointment. If you are a serious buyer and would like to come see any of my vehicles, email me to arrange a mutual time we can meet at my storage facility. An administrative fee of $149 will be added to the final bid of each auction. All vehicles are trade ins from local dealers and are sold "as-is". Unless specifically stated otherwise, I do not service or recondition any vehicle prior to sale. Please read the entire description and review all photos carefully before bidding or asking a question. Everything I know about each car (both good and bad) is fully disclosed within this description. It is my pleasure to offer a very rare 1985 Cadillac Cimarron for a NO RESERVE auction today. For those who don't know, the Cimarron was Cadillac's first (and not last) shot at small European luxury vehicles. In the mid-late 80's, vehicles like the BMW 3 Series began to dominate the small car segment in both quality and as a status symbol which made domestic small car sales suffer. GM's answer to this was the same thing they've always done (and have continued to do)...take an existing platform and try to re-invent it to compete. The platform chosen to combat the European sport sedan was the "J" chassis (Cavalier/Sunbird/Skylark) due to it's reliability and already existing success. So the Cimarron was born... The Cadillac Cimarron stood apart from all of the cars it shared a chassis with thanks to it's unique styling. Its distinctive grill, side moldings and front fog lights really made the Cimarron stand out from it's siblings (and really anything else GM had on the market at the time). Additionally, it boasted front wheel drive and the 2.8L engine which was first optional in 1985. The Cimarron came with different suspension than its lesser siblings and extra sound insulation to make it as quiet as a Cadillac should be. I feel this car is significant because it was the original domestic solution to European domination in the small sport sedan market. Even though the Cimarron was not a huge success, I credit it as a precursor to the Catera and eventually the CTS. Although the Catera was derived from an Opel and the CTS shares its dimensions with other GM products, the Cimarron was the concept that started it all. These cars are next to impossible to find, let alone in this condition. The Cimarron was tagged one of the worst cars (for its lack of value and poor saler) of all time and nearly destroyed Cadillac. These little cars certainly deserve a place in Cadillac history for both their accomplishments (bringing younger buyers to the brand) and their faults (a poorly disguised Cavalier that was rushed to market way before it was able to compete with the likes of BMW, Saab and Audi). I would rate the exterior of this Cimarron as ABOVE AVERAGE. This example is presented in a very rare color combination. The exterior is two tone with a pinkish silver over gray cladding. Although a little worn in front of the hood, the paint on this car looks amazing for its age. I only found a minor amount of rust...also amazing for its age. The paint has a great shine from any angle and the chrome still looks good. All of the glass and lenses appear to be in tact. The alloy wheels are in excellent condition and the tires are nearly new all around. This is truly a remarkable car in original condition. I would rate the interior of this Cadillac as EXCELLENT. As you can see, the interior of this car is almost perfect. The door panels are clean and in tact. The carpets are clean and full throughout. An original set of Cadillac floor mats are included, also in excellent condition. The seats are nearly perfect throughout. The two front seats are power operated. The interior is finished in a rich burgundy and the seats are leather with velour inserts. The seats are very comfortable. The dash and console are as close to perfect as can be. All of the instrumentation in the dash is working properly. The stereo is the original system which sounds great. The climate control is digitally controlled. The climate control panel responds as it should. The air conditioner will need charged or serviced...it does not blow cold. The original 1985 owners manuals are included in their original Cadillac leather folder which is still in the original Cadillac plastic bag. This Cimarron comes with three sets of keys including the original gold keys. The head liner is clean but it is loose and sagging in the middle. The trunk has a remote release inside the glove box. You can see that the trunk is clean, spacious and comes with the original Cadillac trunk mat which is also in perfect condition. Mechanically, this Caddy appears to not be in bad condition for its age. The 2.8L engine starts up and runs pretty well. It does run a little rough when you first start it but smooths out shortly. There is an oil leak. It looks to be external dripping onto something hot because it produces a little smoke at times. Oil pressure is consistant and the level is fine. The engine compartment is as clean as the rest of the car. During my road test, this car drove great. The sport/touring suspension is tight and responsive as it should be. The steering is solid and the brakes stop the car effectively and with no pulsation or noise. Out on the highway, this little Cimarron cruises like a Caddy should. It drives nice and strait with no vibration or pulling at highway speeds. The transmission engages smoothly and shifts as it should. The oil pressure is great and the engine kept a good temperature for me. It only has 80k original miles but should probably have a tune up given its age but I see no major issues. I have the ORIGINAL 1985 title including a 1989 lien release from GMAC. This car comes in original, near perfect condition from it's original owner who kept this car for 25 years!!! You get three sets of keys (including the gold set) and the original manuals in mint, original condition. All lights work, all gauges work and it is currently inspected. This car is by no stretch a "perfect" car but I see and buy a lot of cars and I can tell you that this car is nicer than many 2005's that I see in my business. This is a rare car, with low miles, one owner and in remarkable condition. While not your typical collector car, I really hope it goes to an owner who understands the significance of these cars and will continue to treat is like the jewel it is. Thanks for looking and good luck bidding on the only Cimarron on eBay!
