Up for Sale is my 1960 VW Single Cab. I learned that this odd beauty is very rare primarily because of something known as "Chicken Tax" In 1964 in retaliation to the tariffs on imports from France and Germany of U.S. Chickens. President Johnson imposed a 25% tax (10X the normal tax) to include light trucks. Which VW van and pickup qualified as. In translation "NO" chickens equals "NO" Pickups/Vans. So dealerships sat on these trucks. They couldnt give them away because the prices where to high! In 1971 these rattling beauties all but disappeared The engine is an "Original" 1200. That has been rebuilt and starts at first crank guaranteed! Seats have been redone. Body is in excellent condition and the undercarriage is solid as a rock with absolutely "NO PATCH WORK" The floor in the inside cab is solid as well and the rockers are solid No soft metal anywhere. My car also comes with the original manuscript from Germany showing the engine, body and chassis all match which is a rarity for being 63 years old!!
