Vehicle Detail
Mercury Comet Cyclone GT 390. This is a Florida car that I purchased in Maryland in 2004. All original including sheetmetal and Mercury Head keys. Original 390 engine rebuilt, 4-speed shifter and toploader with new clutch. Factory dash mounted tachometer (was working before rebuild). Manual steering and brakes. Steering box is tight with no play. Nice original bucket seat interior with console. Nice dash. Fresh professionally rebuilt (Cost 3K) .030 over original 390 S-code engine with new pistons, rebuilt heads, new fuel pump, new water pump and a Ford C6AE Police Interceptor aluminum intake I installed (the original cast iron intake included). Factory C6AE-R heads with bigger intake ports. That’s right, some people call these 1966 390 R-heads “poor man’s Cobra Jet heads”. The valves are standard FE size, but the intake ports are the size of a 428 Cobra Jet. This was a 1-year Ford thing. Trunk has parts to complete: new exhaust pipes, rebuilt carburetor (Ford 600 CFM 4300) with linkage, new alternator, original HiPo air cleaner etc. New carpet, new headliner (needs finishing), good radiator, clutch linkage and new brakes with new dual master cylinder installed with new brake lines (one line needed to complete). Original exhaust manifolds are on the motor. Transmission, drive shaft and shifter linkage installed. Factory 9-inch traction-lok rear. Originally light yellow with black interior. Nice original fiberglass scooped hood, solid body with small rust holes in the passenger floor board (someone in the past used white caulk to “repair” see photos). Perfect rust free shock towers and front/rear frame rails. Minor sheet metal rust (see photos). Factory wheels with special hubcaps. I include an extra rust free trunk lid (the original has rust along the edge). This car ran great before the engine rebuild—tracked straight, shifted smoothly and road nicely. I have not started the new rebuilt motor and to run again, some assembly required: motor needs alternator/belts/hoses installed. I have too many projects to finish this really cool Mercury. I have paperwork including owner’s manual and the dealer window sticker. This car is sold “as is” and I reserve the right to end the auction early. Maryland title in my name. Someone in the past installed a 1967 Cyclone nose on this car, but I like it. I cannot see any evidence of accidents anywhere on this Mercury. Good glass. I have the side fender flag-Cyclone emblems.
