Vehicle Detail

This is a 1942 Chevrolet Suburban. This truck is obviously rare and in great shape, considering it's getting ready to turn 70 years old next year. I was told this vehicle was used as an ambulance during WWII, but I can't confirm that. I have limited knowledge of the vehicle, so I'll do my best to describe it. The truck appears to have been restored at some point... maybe 20 years ago. The body is all steel, except for the front fenders, which are fiberglass. The original engine was replaced with a high pressure 235 at some point. I'm guessing the current engine is from a late 50's Chevy. The tranny is a 4 speed granny. The engine fires right up and runs as smooth as silk and the tranny shifts fine. The lights, wiper, horn and guages work, but I don't know how accurate the gas guage is. The driving/fog lights mounted in front are not wired in. I just honed out the wheel cylinders and replaced the cups on all four corners, so the brakes are working good. The emergency brake works great as well. The body has numerous nicks and scratches, but there are no dents to speak of. The running boards on each side are a little battered, but as solid as a rock. I can find no rust issues on this truck and it appears to have been garage/shed kept. The frame has no rust pitting on it anywhere that I've seen. The seat in the back does not appear to be original, because it doesn't fit the original mounting locations. The wood floor in the back of the truck is original with no rot whatsoever. All glass in the truck is in good shape and roll up/down. The large side windows in the back roll up and down as well, but a couple of them need help to roll back up. The windshield will not crank open, because of the visor brace. The truck has bias ply tires on the front and radials on the rear. They hold air, but should all be replaced. The truck has the traffic light viewer prism and a rare GM tissue box holder. That is about all I know about this Suburban, but I will be happy to honestly answer any questions you might have. This truck would be a cool driver, or an excellent restoration candidate. While I am confident in the mechanical condition of this truck, I'm not saying you won't break down in my driveway and I give no warranty or promises. You are welcome to contact me with questions, or to come by and inspect the vehicle in person. I will always be completely honest and not sugar-coat any description. The title to this truck is clear and in my name. Feel free to contact me at 540-820-6872. Delivery in an enclosed trailer is possible, if terms are agreed upon. Good luck bidding. On Aug-26-11 at 05:24:07 PDT, seller added the following information: Just in case there is confusion, the mileage listed (3,390), is what is shown on the odometer and is not to be taken for original mileage.
