Vehicle Detail
An extremely original rare car of many significant firsts. First generation short stroke high compression V8 (303 cu in), first generation of the two door hardtop (dubbed the "Convertible Coupe") First generation of power windows and power seat. (not so much a plus in this instance as the hydraulic pump works, but the windows move poorly) Second stage of the Hydra- matic transmission (no Park position, pawl) The miles you see on the odometer are original. This car runs very well, and shifts lethargically, but has had too few chances to be brought up to temperature, or sustained use. The water pump leaks terribly, and the exhaust system is rusted away, which is why running the car has to be done in short stints just to build good oil pressure. You will notice that the carburator and the intake manifold have been changed from the original side draft carb (they sucked). What was installed is a Rochester Quadrajet and manifold from a 1953 Olds 98. The brake pedal goes to the floor now, but the brakes shoes and wheel cylinders were all new in 1985, so possible master cylinder or line. The parking brake works well. You can see in the photos that the interior has suffered from age. Some of the leather should be useable for the reupholstering, but all of the cloth is very dry, as with the foam, and most of the cotton batting. As you look at the body, you can see that there is remarkable little "rust-through", but lots of surface rust....still expensive to restore, but not as bad as rebuilding panels! The photos also show that there are several new and rechromed parts, but many others needing attention. So, other important things to know are: This car has been in my family since 1979, stored inside for the bulk of those years. It spent its early years in Temperance MI, moved to upstate New York, then came back to Milan, Michigan as my career brought me to MI. It is painful to part with this car, and I truly hope that the person who purchases it is a avid Oldsmobile fan, as this it not just "some cool old car"!!Registration is complete on this car, but it proceeded the title years. I do also have a body manual to go with this car. Do not hesitate to direct questions my way, as I insist that you know all you want to know about it before you, the buyer come to pick up the vehicle. Any who wish to see it before the end of the auction, please request by message and I will call you to arrange this.MORE PHOTOS ON REQUEST!!!!!
