Vehicle Detail

1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe, 2.3L 4-cyl turbo charged, 5 speed manual transmission - "Motor Trends 1987 Car of the Year" Features: Turbocharged engine (actually puts out more horsepower in stock configuration than the 5.0 V-8)5-speed manual transmissionComputer controlled automatic climate system (A/C is connected, and works !)Active suspension (triggered by any combination of turns/acceleration/deceleration or ABS system) 4 wheel ABS brakesKeyless entry AM/FM Radio (it's the stock Ford 'premium sound') Entirely stock with exception of boost valve, and roller camshaft. (Functional stock boost valve can be reconnected in less than 2 minutes, I have no idea why you'd want to switch back to a slider cam). I put the boost valve in to limit boost below that of the stock controller. (Valve can also be used to adjust to maximum usable psi from the IHI turbo (17psi). Adult/non-smoker owner. Aside from the items noted at the end of the listing, everything in the car works. Car has been used as a 'backup car' for my daily driver, even with infrequent use, fires right up and is ready to go every time, no matter if it's a trip of 20 or 200 miles. Since 2004 I have put a total of 20k miles on the car (only 3k miles per year). When I purchased the car, I spent the time and energy to fix all of the issues right the first time. Since the car is over 20 yrs old, no MD inspection is needed to put this on the road, although I believe that it would sail through if you choose to go that route. Car does not smoke or burn oil. Has always passed MD emissions testing. Original owners manual and paperwork is also included, but not pictured. Gas mileage is 28-30 on the highway, and about 24 in total stop and go. I get 26+ in mixed DC traffic. Work done since 2004, Rebuilt top of motor, complete head job, roller camshaftAll hoses and belts replacedNew radiatorRebuilt transmissionReplaced u-jointsBrakes all aroundEmergency brake cables replacedAdded Ford OEM Driving Computer (ET, Fuel Economy, Fuel Used, Clock/Calendar)Retrofit A/C to 134a (included flushing/replacement of all seals)Replaced cat-back exhaust with 2.5" single pipe (stock is a dual exhaust through at best 1.75" pipes, the single breaths better than stock)Replaced headlights (OEM Ford replacements - crystal clear)Upgraded capacity Bosch alternator Three of the tires are the ones put on in 2004, I had a cut in the sidewall on the drivers front, which was recently replaced. Tread is about 50% on the three oldest tires. In addition to the car, I have also placed every spare part I've got into the trunk, including a poly bushing kit (it's one of the popular updates to the car), rear brake rotor/pad set, Ford Shop Manuals, hoses.... The trunk is actually rather full of parts. Known issues: Paint is the original 1987 finish, clear is gone in several placesMinor rust starting in a few spots, no major surgery required (What is present is shown in the photos) Passenger electric lock not currently functioning (I should be able to fix this before listing ends) Crack in windshield (not in drivers field of vision, isn't going to spread over the entire windshield)Rear window trim was removed, but not reinstalled, it's currently in the trunkCruise control functions, but doesn't like to compensate well for hills, holds speed on flat/moderate terrain fine(Forgot this isn't visible in the photos, since I couldn't get the right angle) Driver's front seat has the usual wear on the outside edge, the leather isn't ripped, but it is worn a bit. The remainder of the seats are intact and look fairly good for the age of the vehicle. The carpet looks much better in person than illuminated by the flash on the camera. On Aug-17-11 at 20:02:21 PDT, seller added the following information: Update - I've added photos relating to the known issues with the cosmetics of the car as I wasn't happy with the size and level of detail being shown in the photos. If you're bidding, you deserve to have all of the info possible available. If you've got any questions on the pics, please feel free to PM me, I will try to get back to you ASAP. I was called out of town unexpectedly so if you are local to Annapolis, and wanted to see the car, the earliest I will be in town is Saturday. Thanks for your interest and bids !
