Vehicle Detail
The Buick GS 340 was an attempt to draw in young buyers to their dealerships advertising a special 260 hp 340, hood scoops, rally sripes, and rally wheels. All were two door hardtops with black bench seat interiors based on the Buick Special interior. They could be painted either White or Pltinum Mist (silver) with either red, white, or black stripes. The GS 340 package came standard with the ST 300 with 3.23 gears in the rear end. The production numbers aren't quite clear on this model, I was told that only 4000 Skylark Specials were built. This was a mid-year production based on the Special platform so I am estimating about 1000-1400 GS 340s were built-who knows how many are left. I am the second owner of this car. I also have the broadcast (build) sheet, and original window sticker. I had done work to this car such as replacing the entire floor of the passenger compartment, the rear window filler panel, lower windshield channel, replaced the windshield, new weatherstripping-except for the window felts, new brake hoses, newe brake wheel cylinders, rebuilt the original master cylinder-with bleeders, the original engine is on an engine stand - it is the highest bidder's if they want it, the original switch pitch Super Turbine 300 transmission is in working condition, replaced the dash pad, Installed a 67 Buick 360 hp 430 from a Wildcat, new engine mounts, original radiator, new heater core, new HVAC control cables, rebuilt A/C compressor. I had the A/C system charged with Freeze 12 and it worked really good until I took it to have it painted. The factory original sport steering wheel was restored. It also has a set of fresh upper control arm bushings, and it has a set of T-3 headlights. My plan was to build a car that I would enjoy-not a teen-ager who wants a Chevy engine in it. Nothing against those people, but this is a special Special. The paint is only a couple of months old and is a base/clear silver with black stripes. There is only a couple of minor blems in the paint, but it looks really good. The interior needs to be finished. I was going to install Chevelle door panels if I could not find the right ones. The original seats have some tears, but are ok for a driver. The back seat has the top and bottom, I just had it removed to show the panel was replaced. This is a running/driving car. It has the Buick 360 hp 430. The engine runs strong-it wants to spin the tires any time you give it any throttle. This is a high compression engine, so it needs high octane gasoline. No knocks or rattles from the engine. Buick engines make a LOT of power without the need of a lumpy camshaft. In fact, I've found that these heads flow better than 1970 Stage 1 heads. The rear end has the factory 3.23 gears in it. It has all the power you need on demand while very drivable. It still has the factory 4 core Harrison radiator in the car. Those alone I've seen sell for $600+ reproduction. The cooling fan is the more desirable flat rivet style. I have installed a set of aftermarket gauges under the dash-oil pressure when cold is 60 psi and when warm is 45 psi at idle, the alternator AC Delco regulator charges at almost 15 volts, and I've had it idle for a long time without overheating. I have not driven it much. It does need the front exhaust pipes redone as they hang low to the ground. The body starting out was very solid, only the floor pans had major issues-which were replaced. Once you start with a better car-you wind up with a better car. There is NO rot in the frame, core support or battery tray. The trunk is still pretty solid, but there is pitting. a good coat of POR 15 should be enough treatment. I have the original build or broadcast sheet. It was removed several years ago and kept in a safe for many years. I also have the original window sticker. the VIN, order number, and dealer number all match each other. This is a rare find for any car, not to mention a low production car such as this one is. As you can tell, this car is not perfect, but it is a RARE complete running/driving/stopping car. I am the second owner of this car. That in itself is a rarity as many other muscle cars have. It can easily be brought back as numbers matching. You could drive this car home, but I recomment transportring it. Transporting this is your responsibility. Sale of this car is as is. If you need to contact me, e-mail will be best through ebay. I work some unique hours. I am selling this car only as I want to take a vacation to see my brother. If it doesn't sell, I will probably keep it. I had looked this car up with a classic car dealer, and he said this car is valued atleast $11,000 according to his book, and then the window sticker and broadcast sheet adds even more value-not to mention that I have the matching numbers engine/transmission, and period correct Big Block Buick 430 engine. I believe the alternator and starter are correct; the carburetor is a remanufactured one. There are a lot of correct original, and period correct parts on this car. Enjoy the photos, contact me if you need more. Bids are considered a binding contract. E-mail through ebay is best. But if you need to call, my number is 214-606-5885. If I do not answer leave a message and I will return your call when I am able. Thank you, Steve.
